The Unit Will Live To Fight Another Day, In Syndication

May 19th, 2009 | 27 Comments | Email | Share | Tweet

After CBS announced the cancellation of The Unit after four seasons, the studios’ syndication arm Twentieth TV announced that the show has been sold in syndication for a fall 2010 launch. The military drama starring Dennis Haysbert has been cleared in 56% of country, including the Fox Television stations and, ironically, CBS stations for Fall 2010 debut. The series from David Mamet and Shawn Ryan has been sold in all top 15 markets including New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Philadelphia, Dallas and San Francisco.

Thank you CBS for canceling a great show, yet leaving us with more terrible television like Gary Unmarried, Adventures of Old Christine, Cold Case and Rules of Engagement.

How do we go about sending our pleas to CBS regarding The Unit? I understand that it will be on in syndication, but I want to give them a piece of my mind for taking it off of primetime while leaving us with JUNK.

  2. Elle says:

    Great – thank you

  3. Anna says:

We watch CBS exclusively. It is a shame that Unit and Without a Trace are not on your fall lineup! The Unit is by far one of the better shows on tv. Give it a better time slot! The same with Without A Trace.. It was a great show. You just leave people hanging!
I’m sure if you did a poll (not phone poll) of true CBS viewers you would find that most want the Unit. Who cares about these stupid shows about contacting the dead… That’s ridiculous,
    Bring back THE UNIT!!

  4. Sharon says:

    Sharon Says,
You people at CBS and others, don’t get it. You get a great show and you dump it for some stupid comedy that isn’t one bit funny. As far as I am concerned, your line up stinks. What about others show, like Friday night lights, with a good story line? How about Flash Point, that is so much like reality in life and how cops put their lives on the line, another great show you dumped for other crappy shows. Your losing your good show and the good people that will stop watching your station. Maybe you all should think about your great line up, not. Bring back the Unit, Flash Point and Friday Night Lights and get rid of the stupid shows.

  5. Al says:

well times are tough so they have to give up the good show because they can not pay for the good shows

  6. Paula says:

I really don’t understand the process for determining how they keep shows and how they dispose of shows. I know in our part of the country we are in pretty much the same mind on the majority of shows and yet they get cancelled. I never watch the sitcoms. Neither do the rest of my family or the neighbors. Before long you will be leaving us with very little to watch and then we will be left with just renting what we want. I SURE AM TIRED OF WATCHING THE REPEAT OF 15 OF THE SAME DIRTY COMMERCIALS OVER AND OVER!! Those I think could be put on at late night. I’ve had my say.

  7. Sandra T. says:

I’m not happy that you are removing The Unit from prime time viewing. It was bad enough to put it on Sunday at 10pm. It was one of the few shows that I watched every week. Quit playing with the line-up. I realize that TV land is not geared toward those of us over age 50 but we DO have the money to spend on your sponsors as opposed to the twenty somethings deeply in debt and living on credit cards. Why remove this great show and leave us with garbage like reality shows and all that junk including comedies that are not funny. I don’t waste my time watching any of them. My husband will also go back to watching his sports programs that are on another channel. Not happy at all! Fix it!! Also, bring back Without a Trace.

  8. Nichols says:

So is someone picking up THE UNIT? What about a season 5?

  9. katie says:

The Unit is one of the best shows on tv! I can’t believe your network is cancelling it! Syndication is not a consolation…I already own all the seasons…I want a new one! And I’m seriously tired of all the crappy ‘comedies’ you opt to keep over the actual entertaining shows!

  10. Max Goins says:

Overall, Modern television is an insult to most Americans. We no longer have good programing, just programming which features homosexuality and banial, so called “reality tv” which is far removed from real life.

  11. Sharon says:

Bring back the Unit and stop fooling around with so many stupid comedies and physic shows, and these stupid animated cartoons, they are so stupid and I do not think they are appropriate for children. Get rid of the junk and bring back, the good shows, like the Unit. I agree with Anna, lets do a poll to keep the Unit, a true poll, not a Telephone poll, let the people vote for the good shows you are dumping for junk. I am very unhappy with CBS.
    Sharon

  12. dave says:

Thanks for making my decision easy, CBS — I’m done with cable. No Unit, no more TV. (Sheesh — enough with the dreadfully stupid comedies, and the endless doc/cop knock-offs.) I’ll get entertainment somewhere else.

  13. cody gill says:

I CANNOT BELIEVE THE INCOMPENTENCE OF CBS! What brainiac exec. chose to pull the plug on the only good series EVER on this station, and let alone TV in general! This is the ONLY series I have ever religously watched and now that it is gone.. so is any chance of CBS (Creates Bullshit Sytcoms) ever getting any ratings. With their so called Comedys that are so lame, they make me want to pull my toe nails off one by one for some less painful entertainment. And their knock off “Reality” shows that are further from reality than Gary Busey giving recovery advice for addicts. All I know is if someone bought that show and intend on keeping the intensity and unpredictability, they would be doing the whole Television community a favor and saving millions of people around the world from giving up on this dying form of entertainment we call drama series. I felt like I got my head slammed against a car window by Chris Brown when they changed it to Sundays at 10pm, but this is worse than having to be the defense attorney that has to sit next to Caylee Anthony and try to defend that waste of life. This is a true failure and we must keep the fight for the last good show in America running!!

  14. Rik says:

The unit is the only show i actually followed, what better greater ode to the service man and women than that show.

CBS bring it back ! As the unit men would say: “Things are rough allover”.

    Regards from the Netherlands.

  15. Pauline says:

I love The Unit, I lived for it for every week.

I have health problems and this show had so many
great actors, that gave me something to look forward to.

How can we get The Unit back for it’s 5th season.

Please!!! need someones help to do this.

    A Fan

  16. A Fan of the Unit says:

Please bring back the Unit. I have tried to move on without this show but it is hard to forget this show. The unit was seriously one of the best shows on television. CBS should be counted itself lucky to have owned the show. Its cancellation still baffles me as I know the show had many captive audiences.

CBS, can you please bring back the Unit? PLEASE.

    • Give us back The Unit says:

Seriously CBS….please read the reactions about getting rid of The Unit. It was a serious mistake to put it on Sunday nights at 10 but at least it was on. Now all I get to see is the ever so scripted, contrived, and annoyingly pseudo PC crap. I can’t believe these shows even made it in front of a producer. WTH are you doing CBS?

  17. unit fan says:

    BRING THE UNIT!!!!!!! enough said

  18. unit fan says:

you people are STUPID bring the unit back

  19. Francoise says:

I can’t believe it! no ” The Unit”… It’s such an amazing show and watched by so many!. I agree with those whom spoke about this ghost whisper’ garbage… never watched and I actually tried- what a bunch of nothing ~ bring back ” The Unit”- How I miss the wonderful theme song it had! I was waiting now disapointed….

  20. Birgitta says:

I’ve been waiting and waiting for “The Unit” to come on. And now I find oput it’s been cancelled. ARE YOU CRAZY! One of the best shows ever. BRING IT BACK, NOW D..M IT

  21. Krystal says:

Well, you have made my evening choice simple – no more Unit, no more CBS! Goodbye.

  22. Pam says:

The Unit was really one of the best shows left on CBS. It was nice to see a show with a fresh storyline, instead of: NCIS – 1 & 2 or CSI – 1, 2, 3… When Flashpoint appeared mid-season last year, I had hope of another Really good show. I rarely missed it, even when it moved to Friday nights. They were both so well done that you felt you were actually part of the action instead of just watching it. [Very few shows have achieved that in the last few years]. While there’s hope with Three Rivers, the rest of the stupid “comedies” which is a stretch is such a waste – of money and air time. Just because it’s Network TV doesn’t mean we don’t deserve Quality Entertainment!

  23. Dennis says:

Like so many I am disappointed that The Unit will not be returning. I have a military background and enjoyed not only the military action, but the family interaction. Bring it back!

  24. Mr. Tee says:

    Please bring back the UNIT!
NCIS Los Angelis is certainly not a replacement. A couple good characters and a bunch of non interesting or entertaining actors/actresses will not do it.
Bring back the Unit and take The Mentalist or several others shows off instead.

  25. Abby says:

This was the most intelligently written, fascinating show I’ve seen in years and as LA continues to be completely removed from the reality/interests of the rest of the US or world, for that matter, the show was cancelled. I’m absolutely frustrated beyond belief. This show was original, well-acted action with heart and soul. WHY must Hollywood continue to lower the bar of expectations for the audiences? They absolutely SUCK and I will continue to move further and further away from respecting or watching anything that comes out of that idiotic town.
