Brothers & Sisters
Even though Justin totally pulled his Doogie Howser lab partner together after he freaked out on Sunday, the medical wunderkind won’t be so kind in return: He asks their professor that he be reassigned to someone else. But at least there’s a vacation on Justin’s horizon, as he and Rebecca choose their wedding location. Black ties are optional; leis will be preferred. (TV Guide)
Balthazar Getty and Sarah Jane Morris are returning fo the upcoming wedding of brother Justin to non-sister Rebecca. No word yet if their characters, Tommy and Julia, will return as a couple or separately. Tommy was last seen at the close of last season in Mexico, trying to get a handle on his screwed up life. Marion Ross, who plays Nora’ mother, will also likely return for her grandson’s big day, having missed Kevin and Scotty’s wedding. (TV Guide Magazine)
Californication
Episode 3.03 – Verities & Balderdash
Hank and Becca attend the annual English Department Fall Mixer hosted by Dean Koons and wife Felicia. After flirtatious exchanges with student Jackie and Felicia, Hank finds himself consoling his jilted teacher’s aide Jill the best way he knows how. Meanwhile, Becca and Chelsea sneak out to discuss life, love, and the finer points of psychedelic mushrooms. Charlie tries to coax Marcy into celebrating his first signing at the new agency, teen idol Rick Springfield. When Marcy passes, Charlie finds a modicum of comfort in the arms of his new boss, Sue Collini. (Showtime
Episode 3.04 – Zoso
Becca drags Hank to a trendy shopping boutique to pick out some more grown-up attire. But Hank isn’t so sure he likes the “new” Becca’s makeover. At work, Hank juggles sexual encounters with teacher’s aide Jill and boss Felicia. And finally, in an attempt to figure out why talented writer Jackie is missing class, Hank drags Charlie to the strip club where she works. Unfortunately, temptation gets the better of Hank. Charlie and Marcy attempt to sell their house, but an unexpected surprise chases the buyers away. (Showtime)
Cold Case
Tracie Thoms’ episode order was cut back this season, so Miller will be missing in spots. She remains a series regular and we’ll see her again “soon enough.” (Michael Ausiello)
Criminal Minds
“Hayley will definitely play an important role in the taking down of The Reaper,” says executive producer Ed Bernero. “That’s really all I can say about that right now. And as far as Emily, we’ve all been talking a lot about her and her ’status,’ though no final decision has been made. She’s become a very important character for us in a number of ways. I think it’s fair to say that we are as interested in Emily Prentiss finding love and balance in her life as the audience is.” (Michael Ausiello)
Garcia’s boyfriend, Kevin (Nicholas Brendon), pops up in the series’ 100th episode, as do J.J.’s boyfriend and baby Henry. That episode, this season’s ninth, is shaping up to be a doozy. Executive producer Ed Bernero says that in addition to wrapping up the Reaper story line, the episode will “take the team full-circle back to an important issue raised in the pilot episode: whether it’s possible to surround yourself with monsters and not become one.” (TV Guide)
CSI
Executive producer Carol Mendelsohn says, Sara will reveal in this week’s episode that she “just got back from visiting Grissom in Paris.” Mendelsohn adds that, “We have no plans for Billy to return at the moment, but the door’s always open.” (Michael Ausiello)
Dexter
Do not blink during this Sunday’s episode of Dexter. The final few minutes are fatal for an old friend, and you’re going to want to pay close attention to everything that happens in the hopes if figuring out who done the deed. The character who gets kiled seems quite seriously murdered, so don’t expect him/her back (flashbacks excepted, of course). (Watch With Kristin)
FlashForward
In the October 29 episode, Lloyd Simcoe knocks on the Benfords’ door, and Mark is not happy to see his wife’s future lover. Meanwhile, Lloyd’s autistic kid Dylan recognizes the house, and the Benfords’ daughter Charlie, from his own flashforward, and feels an immediate connection with the place. (TV Guide Magazine)
Episode 1.06 – Scary Monsters and Super Creeps – Airing October 29, 2009
Mark, Demetri and Wedeck try to find a connection between Janis’ attack and a separate attack made on them. Meanwhile, as Halloween approaches, Olivia confronts Mark about his flashforward, Demetri and Gough track down a clue that was foreshadowed in Mark’s flashforward, Lloyd’s son, Dylan, goes missing from the hospital, and the elusive Simon makes contact with a reluctant acquaintance. (ABC)
Friday Night Lights
Executive producer Jason Katims promised that the premiere episode — which focuses on Coach Taylor starting over from scratch with the East Dillon Lions — would feel like a second pilot, and he wasn’t kidding. Katims (who wrote the episode) did a remarkable job balancing the new (six characters) with the old (Tami, Julie, Saracen, Riggins, Landry, and J.D.). One of the six returning characters mentioned transformed into an unbelievable jerk over the summer. Equally as shocking: The episode’s gut-wrenching climax. (Michael Ausiello)
Fringe
The episode currently in production — this season’s 10th — features the return of Leonard Nimoy’s William Bell. (Michael Ausiello)
“Astrid gets out of the lab a lot more this season,” reveals executive producer Jeff Pinkner. “And we just wrote a Astrid/Walter arc.” (Michael Ausiello)
Greek
This season’s penultimate episode on October 26 will reveal which way Casey’s love life is going – towards Evan or Cappie. (Michael Ausiello)
The November 2 finale promises to be the show’s most ambitious to date. In a word, musical! “Our girls’ story is centered around a traditional sorority competition called ‘Songfest,’” explains series creator Sean Smith. “[They perform] some big song-and-dance numbers as they go up against Gamma Psi to get the house back on top.” That explains the return of High School Musical’s Olesya Rulin as perky ZBZ pledge Abby, who Smith says sprinkles some “great HSM references” throughout the episode. And then there’s this: “One of our Kappa Taus graduates,” Smith reveals. “That’s right, I used the G-word.” (Michael Ausiello)
Grey’s Anatomy
Isiah Washington kinda gets a shout-out in this week’s episode when Owen-lovin’ Cristina utters three shocking words: “I miss Burke.” (Michael Ausiello)
You already know that someone gets fired in this week’s episode. But what you may not know is that someone gets fired next week, too! (Michael Ausiello)
Heroes
Sendhil Ramamurthy (Mohinder) resurfaces in November, and we’ll get an explanation then of where he has been. More than 50 percent of Ramamurthy’s scenes since returning have been with Masi Oka. (Michael Ausiello)
Strange Attractors – Airing October 26, 2009
Matt goes to extreme measures to extinguish Sylar, who continues to torment him. Elsewhere, HRG. calls in a favor from Tracy to save a troubled young boy whose misfortunes resemble her own. While Claire and Gretchen are being hazed by their new sorority sisters, they realize pledging might not be their biggest problem. (NBC)
How I Met Your Mother
Episode 5.06 – Bagpipes – Airing November 2, 2009
Despite their best efforts to be the perfect couple, Barney’s know-it-all attitude gets him in trouble with Robin and they are forced to ask Marshall and Lily for relationship advice. (CBS)
Melrose Place
Someone’s gonna die! It’s a big character and a big death. This death is tied to a bigger storyline as well, so I’m under lock and key on this one so I don’t ruin the whole season. Are you guys digging Melrose, BTW? So far it has exceeded my expectations. (Watch With Kristin)
Lauren (Stephanie Jacobsen) might be getting a boyfriend. Producers are looking to cast a hot young resident named Gavin who meets Lauren at the hospital. Gavin’s going to start as a guest star, but he might become a series regular. (Watch With Kristin)
Modern Family
Tensions rise during a day of barbecue and football at Jay and Gloria’s in the wake of an incident between Manny and Luke at school. (SpoilerTV)
NCIS
This season NCIS will devote special episodes to Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. (Michael Ausiello)
Executive producer Shane Brennan sounds delighted about an arc he has planned for Abby this season — and says Gibbs plays a big part in it. “[Abby] does have a special relationship with Gibbs, [who has changed] because of the journey he has taken over the past two-and-a-half seasons,” Brennan says. “Most people will see that Gibbs smiles more now; he’s kind of warming up. There’s certainly more to learn about the relationship between Gibbs and Abby, and we play toward that in this special arc of Abby’s.” (TV Guide)
Episode 7.06 – Outlaws And In-Laws – November 3, 2009
A murder investigation prompts Gibbs and the team to play family counselor to his former mentor, Mike Franks, in the hopes of preventing a bloody international conflict. (CBS)
NCIS: Los Angeles
Callen’s backstory will continue to be front and center through November sweeps, but executive producer Shane Brennan promises developments for Kensi (Daniela Ruah) and Sam (LL Cool J). ” If Callen is a mystery, then Sam is an intrigue,” Brennan says. “There is one stunning revelation about Sam Hanna that the audience will go, ‘I did not see that coming.’ It’s amazing. I won’t tell you when it’s coming, but it will arrive with some impact.” (TV Guide)
Psych
Friday’s finale is the episode where Shawn gets shot (and kidnapped and nearly murdered), which leads to a lot of great personal storyline stuff! Henry takes a lead role in the investigation, much to Lassie’s dismay, and Shawn’s perilous situation makes Juliet realize that she might have more serious feelings for him than she realized. She even grills Gus about the status of Shawn’s relationship with Abigail. (Watch With Kristin)
Scrubs
Scrubs executive producer Bill Lawrence decided to write Chalke’s real-life pregnancy into the story line. “It’s kind of a time cut into the future, so J.D. and I are already married and pregnant with our first kid,” Chalke says. “I’m going to do a bunch [of episodes] until this baby gets too big for me to go to work anymore,” she says. She adds that Zach Braff is also on board for the first six episodes; John C. McGinley and Donald Faison will be series regulars on the rebooted Scrubs, which returns to ABC in January. (TV Guide)
Sons of Anarchy
When Jax (and the rest of the club) are incarcerated, Tara appears to be absolutely devastated and volunteers to mortgage her father’s house for bail money—and believe it or not, she’s even fiercer than Gemma when it comes to watching over Opie’s kids. There’s not a lot of Jax-Tara canoodling in the coming episodes, but you won’t miss it a bit when you see the really solid emotional commitments from both of them. (Watch With Kristin)
In an upcoming episode, someone close to the club gets dead. Majorly dead. Blood and brain matter dead. And when you learn who it is, your heart is going to break a little. The good news is the death ain’t Chibs. The bad news is that it’s somebody else about whom the club cares deeply. The terrible deed is done in episode nine, entitled “Potlatch,” and it involves a character known and loved since season one. Another clue? This killing doesn’t have a clear analogue in Shakespeare’s play Hamlet, which many fans know sets up the general superstructure of the series. (Watch With Kristin)
One highlight in episode eight is a hilarious scene featuring Theo Rossi’s Juice. As Rossi says, “Let me put it this way, if you think last season was uncomfortable, there’s a couple really uncomfortable moments for everyone, including me. Very uncomfortable.” The moments in question take place in San Joaquin County’s correctional facility, where the majority of the Original Redwood Charter lands after making a major tactical error in their approach to Ethan Zoebelle’s (Adam Arkin) League of American Nationalists. (Watch With Kristin)
As Charlie Hunnam said earlier this year, this visit to jail raises the stakes for Jax and Clay (Ron Perlman), and they get into it. Let’s just say that you know a fight is serious business when hitman Happy (David LaBrava) calls it brutal. The fight even did some collateral damage to Charlie’s face: “On the day we shot that, I ended up getting a tooth knocked out. Bam, slammed face first into metal bars.” (Watch With Kristin)
Gemma pervasive melancholy remains but she is getting her strength back in the coming episodes, as expressed by her resurgent control over the family and a little Tara (Maggie Siff) torture thrown in for good measure—only a little Tara torture, though. Gemma’s tendency to torment the good doctor is balanced by a fascinating, increasingly powerful and damn entertaining alliance between the two leading ladies of Charming. (Watch With Kristin)
Smallville
Next Friday’s episode, “Roulette,” is all about Oliver, with a little Chloe twist thrown in. (Michael Ausiello)
Southland
The sixth and final episode completed is a self-contained ep, so the procedural element will be wrapped up. But there won’t be any big-picture closure — although Michael Cudlitz hints that the final scene contains “a little Easter egg for people who have followed the show and my storyline.” (Michael Ausiello)
Supernatural
Two fan favorites are going to die this season, and in the same episode, Sam and Dean fight Lucifer. (Watch With Kristin)
Episode 5.08 – Changing Channels – Airing November 5, 2009
When Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean (Jensen Ackles) find themselves living their lives on what appear to be TV shows, it makes for a whole new style of reality television and they wonder if the Trickster (guest star Richard Speight, Jr.) is to blame. From a sitcom to a soapy hospital drama to a Japanese game show to a crime procedural, each new experience they encounter is more bizarre than the next and they want out. But is the Trickster really the mastermind behind the madness? (SpoilerTV)
The Good Wife
Episode 1.05 – Crash – Airing October 20, 2009
Alicia and Will have only 72 hours to find the smoking gun that proves the train company, and not the three engineers, is responsible for the crash, thus securing the widows their pensions the company is holding back. Meanwhile, Jackie and Alicia clash over taking the children to visit their father in prison. (CBS)
Episode 1.06 – Conjugal – November 3, 2009
As Alicia works with Will on the appeal of a death row inmate, she agrees to a conjugal visit with Peter in order to get information from him since her client was convicted under Peter’s regime as state’s attorney. (CBS)
True Blood
“We will discover who has Bill right off the bat in Season 3, but it’s going to take the people on the show a little bit longer to find out,” executive producer Alan Ball tells us. Sookie will even consider the possibility that he left of his own volition. “It’s not easy for her,” Ball says. “She feels really bad because she’s not sure whether he just left because he was upset because she didn’t say yes right off the bat. But in her heart she believes he was taken and she doesn’t know who took him. She’s going to fight to find him.” (TV Guide)
