Dirt

The show starts filming the second season very soon, and there are quite a few new characters joining the cast. Apparently, a girl named Sharlee Cates and her husband are the new Holt McLaren and Julia Mallory. [Kristin@E!Online]

Parkman has returned to his domestic situation. And Jessica/Niki and her family – their story really reached a conclusion at the end of season 1, so they’re rebuilding anew. So what we will find is that time has passed, and everyone is at a new starting place.” Speaking of new places, Hiro will be in feudal Japan discovering his family history and falling in love with a princess. There’ll also be plenty of new faces, including Alias’ David Anders as the mythical Kensei and, in the best casting news of the year, Veronica Mars’ Kristen Bell joins in episode 5 as Elle, a mysterious figure with ties to the Petrelli and Bennet families. But there’s plenty of action before then, including a good-ol’-fashioned murder mystery. It seems as if someone is hunting the older generation of Heroes, and one familiar face won’t make it past the first episode. [Entertainment Weekly]

On the relationship front, it’s going to take Shawn a long time to convince a girl like Juliet that he’s worthy of her, although there seem to be some pent-up feelings in our one-off Christmas episode (which airs in November, naturally).” [Kristin@E!Online]

Smallville

By the middle of the premiere, one woman will be officially pronounced dead. Lex will find himself in a watery situation that harkens back to the original pilot… only this time, it’s another alien saving his life. Those folks who hated Jimmy will be happy to see that he grows a major spine and sucker-punches a certain Young Man of Steel. Bizarro Clark will get his hands on Lois… and she’ll kind of like it. Expect massive effects after a dam burst brings out Clark’s, um, hottest power. By the end of the episode, the new girl in town will be ready for her close-up. [Michael Ausiello]

Despite his outward cruelty and vampire super-strength, Dixon is actually a vulnerable, grief-stricken man who can’t face eternity alone and is desperately trying to reconstruct a vampire family.” [Michael Ausiello]

Ugly Betty

The season premiere is laugh-out-loud funny and highly entertaining (a telenovela spoof, another big surprise regarding Amanda’s family, etc.) and will also take your breath away with a tragic twist. [Kristin@E!Online]
