The CW Announces 2009 Fall Lineup
May 21st, 2009 | 203 Comments | Email | Share | TweetThe CW Network unveiled the schedule for its 2009-2010 season today at a presentation for advertisers, affiliates and media in the Theater at Madison Square Garden.
On Monday, the powerhouse combination of Gossip Girl and One Tree Hill will remain in place. Last fall, this winning team made The CW the Number One network with women, and sent Monday night ratings up 118 percent in women 18-34. Gossip Girl, which continues to be one of the most talked-about shows on television, will return to its 8:00 PM/ET slot, followed by One Tree Hill from 9:00 PM/ET.
On Tuesday, 90210 returns for its sophomore season in the 8:00 PM/ET timeslot. Last season, 90210 gave The CW its highest-rated series premiere ever and improved the 8:00 PM/ET time period by 35 percent in women 18-34. The highly anticipated, updated version of the 1990s monster-hit drama Melrose Place will premiere in the 9:00 PM/ET timeslot. The new Melrose Place features a dynamic ensemble of up-and-coming stars, along with two original cast members reprising the roles they made famous: Laura Leighton as Sydney Andrews and Thomas Calabro as Dr. Michael Mancini. Melrose Place promises to deliver all the backstabbing and sizzle of the original series. And, as they did once before, 90210 and Melrose Place will combine for a great night of television.
On Wednesday, America’s Next Top Model returns in its successful 8:00 PM/ET timeslot, followed by the glamorous new drama THE BEAUTIFUL LIFE. Last season, America’s Next Top Model ranked second in its time period with young women. Tyra Banks is one of the few women who is seen regularly on both daytime and primetime television. Beginning this fall, The CW’s daytime block will feature two hours of The Tyra Banks Show, with an encore episode from 3:00 PM/ET and an original episode from 4:00 PM/ET. America’s Next Top Model and The Tyra Banks Show provide perfect symmetry and a natural fit for The CW brand by targeting the same audience in both primetime and daytime.
New drama The Beautiful Life joins America’s Next Top Model on Wednesdays. From producers Ashton Kutcher, Jason Goldberg, Karey Burke, Mike Kelley and Carol Barbee, the fashion-based series gives viewers an exciting, behind-the-scenes glimpse at the cutthroat world of a group of young, beautiful and very sexy models living together in a models’ residence in New York City. The show features a stunning ensemble cast, featuring Sara Paxton, Mischa Barton and supermodel Elle Macpherson. Together, America’s Next Top Model and The Beautiful Life will be television’s most fashionable night.
Thursdays go Goth with the new teaming of The Vampire Diaries from 8:00 PM/ET, followed by Supernatural in the 9:00 PM/ET hour. Based on the best-selling series of books, The Vampire Diaries is the story of two vampire brothers obsessed with the same beautiful girl, and battling to control the fate of an entire town. Starring Nina Dobrev, Paul Wesley, Ian Somerhalder and Steven R. McQueen, The Vampire Diaries makes the perfect new lead-in to Supernatural. Last season, Supernatural’s Winchester brothers gave the network ratings growth across key young demos, despite the highly competitive timeslot.
Big changes are in store on Fridays when Smallville relocates to the 8:00 PM/ET hour, bringing young viewers from Thursday into Friday nights. With non-stop action and classic DC Comics characters from Lois Lane to Doomsday, Smallville continues to give loyal viewers the stories and characters they love.
The heartwarming and humorous drama Parental Discretion Advised will premiere midseason. From writer/producer Liz Tigelaar, Parental Discretion Advised is the story of a young girl who finds her biological parents and how that discovery changes all their lives. The show stars Britt Robertson, Kristoffer Polaha, Shiri Appleby and Kerr Smith.

Melrose Place
In an elegant Spanish-style apartment building in the trendy Melrose neighborhood of Los Angeles, a diverse group of 20-somethings have formed a close-knit surrogate family. Sydney Andrews (Laura Leighton, the original “Melrose Place”) is the landlady, still beautiful at 40, and a central figure in the lives of all her tenants, especially handsome and rebellious David Breck (Shaun Sipos, “Shark”). Sydney started an affair with David despite her turbulent history with his estranged father, Dr. Michael Mancini (Thomas Calabro, the original “Melrose Place”). Both father and son learned through experience that Sydney was not above using blackmail to control people. Another tenant, high-powered publicist Ella Simms (Katie Cassidy, “Supernatural”), once considered Sydney her mentor, but their friendship was destroyed by betrayal, and Sydney threatened to evict Ella and ruin her career. Sydney also played a pivotal role in the career of Auggie Kirkpatrick (Colin Egglesfield, “All My Children”). After they met at an AA meeting, she became Auggie’s sponsor and encouraged his dream to become a chef. Now a successful sous chef at the trendy restaurant Coal, Auggie has been avoiding Sydney since she began drinking again. The other tenants include Lauren Yung (Stephanie Jacobsen, “Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles”), a medical student in desperate need of money to pay her student loans, and Jonah Miller (Michael Rady, “Swingtown”), an aspiring filmmaker who has just proposed to his live-in girlfriend Riley Richmond (Jessica Lucas, “Cloverfield”), a first-grade teacher. The newest tenant, 18-year-old Violet Foster (Ashlee Simpson-Wentz, “7th Heaven”), has just arrived in LA with her own secret connection to Sydney. When a bloody body is found floating in the courtyard pool, David is the leading suspect. However, as the police are soon to discover, almost everyone living at Melrose Place had a reason to want the deceased out of the way. An updated version of the popular 1990s series, MELROSE PLACE is from CBS Television Studios with executive producers Todd Slavkin & Darren Swimmer (”Smallville”). Oscar-winner Davis Guggenheim (”An Inconvenient Truth”) is the director and executive producer of the pilot.
The Beautiful Life
The life of a high-fashion model appears glamorous and sexy, but as every new model quickly learns, behind the beautiful faade is a world of insecurity and cutthroat competition. Two teenage models who are about to discover this world for themselves are Raina Collins (Sara Paxton, “Last House on the Left”), a stunning beauty with a secret past, and Chris Andrews (Benjamin Hollingsworth, “The Line”), a strikingly handsome Iowa farm boy. When Raina makes an unforgettable impression at a show introducing the new line from designer Zac Posen (appearing in a cameo role), she steals the spotlight from her friend Sonja (Mischa Barton, “The O.C.”). Sonja has been out of the country for mysterious reasons and is now desperate to reclaim her standing as the reigning supermodel. While Raina and Sonja live at the top of the fashion food chain, Chris is starting at the bottom, having just been discovered by agent Simon Lockridge (newcomer Dusan Dukic) of the Covet Modeling Agency, which is owned by former supermodel Claudia Foster (Elle Macpherson, “Friends”). At his first photo shoot, Chris’ inexperience almost derails his career until Raina comes to his rescue, showing him how to relax and work the camera. After spending all of her 15 years bouncing from one foster family to another in Portland, Oregon, Lux (Britt Robertson, “Swingtown”) has decided it’s time to take control of her life and become an emancipated minor. Her journey through the legal maze leads Lux to her biological father, 30-something Nate “Baze” Bazile (Kristoffer Polaha, “Mad Men”), who owns a bar, lives like an aging frat-boy with two slacker roommates, and is astonished to learn that he has a teenage daughter. Lux is equally astonished when Baze reveals that her mother is Cate Cassidy (Shiri Appleby, “E.R.”), a star on the local “Morning Madness” radio show, along with her on-air partner and real-life boyfriend, Ryan Thomas (Kerr Smith, “Eli Stone”). Lux has been listening to Cate’s voice on the radio as long as she can remember, so she feels an instant connection with the mom she’s never met. Can’t believe Reaper will not return. This show has not been given a fair chance. First year writing strike and next year started late. This is a very funny show and could at least been given one more year. What is the CW thinking. Instead we get the rerun crap like 90210 and a new show (oh wait, this is a remake) Melrose Place. Also Privileged could have another year as well. Oh well, there are other channels to watch instead of CW.
Why should the CW be any different? All the big networks cancel popular shows for stupid reasons. In a perfect world, we’d still be watching Joan of Arcadia, Jericho, Crossing Jordan and many other great shows that were either not given a fair chance or pulled in their prime. Maybe we should boycott TV and read books or listen to music instead!

I’m with the boycotting… the CW would rather put on the remake of 90210 and Melrose place rather than show the game. The need to cancel Smallville if they need to get rid of a show. And what the hell with the Vampire Diaries. I think I had enough with Buffy and Angel. It’s time to put something more entertaining. Grown folk don’t need to be watching fantasty TV that’s what books are for. Bring the Game back. It’s a bigger demographic out there that the CW is not trying the please.

I am so glad to see OTH back for next season, all I have to say is that was a perfect ending this season and I will be pissed if they screw it up and get canceled down the line. CW, lets make this another Dawson’s Creek, a nice long run and a great finale. Don’t get our show canceled right when everything is left settled.

I wasnt a long time fan this was my first season watching every ep and i watched whenever i could before but man come on dan still doesnt have a hear nate just made the NBA I know that peyton and lucas wont be back next season come on give us more OTH we need them to last as long as the simpsons.. they have no point at least OTH does.

The Game has been cancelled….go figure. Another black show off the air. I wish they would have kept The Game on. It is a great show. It beats out Tyler Perry shows by far. Change it to Wednesday nights to compete with TP and I’m sure it would have four times as many viewers. Mark my word.

I totally agree with you Rita. If you put “The Game” against any of Tyler Perry’s time slot shows, “The Game” would win HANDS DOWN! The CW always has a rotten way of dumping SHOWS WITH NO CLOSING TO THE SHOW OR LAST RESOLUTION for it’s viewers. THE GAME WASN’T MARKETED WELL EITHER. One Tree Hill, Gossip Girl, and the remaking of 90210 all are marketed so well I know what was going on with
them in their previous season and I’ve never even watched an entire single episode of any of them. I really wish it were something I could do to retract their decision on ending the show.. “The Game” was so brillaint and got better and better with each season! THIS SUCKS!
i am so upset that The Game will not be returning to the CW. That was my all time favorite show, the cast was great, the theme behind the show and the lessons learned from the relationships were very valuable. I may be a teenager and people always say that kids can’t change anything. Granted, if there is anything I wanted more at this age in my life, is a show that teaches morals and values. A show that doesn’t have anything to do with men and women competing for someones love just for the fame and the lime light. Please bring back The Game.

This will give me an opprtunity to re-direct my focus. I will not continue to support programs that don’t reflect people of my color and culture. First Girlfriends, now The Game. I believe if enough viewers make networks aware of the desire for fair representation by our voice and lack of support they will be forced to start counting us as important to their fiscal bottom line.
It doesn’t matter what we say….the same people that built this nation built this station!!! All I have to say is, it was a great show and like many others sorry to see it go…maybe other races like to see us ignorant and with no substance…

I am so disappointed that the game is not returning for fall 2009. I really hope that this network will reconsider their decision and let the Game continue. This is a great televison show for African Americans but needs to air on a different night. On Fridays everyone is out taking care of business. I think it did great on Sundays.

i also dont believe that the game will not be coming back this fall because its a wonderful show. it ended very nicely but i would love to see the follow up of everything that was shortly put together at the last few seconds of the last episode. i wish that there can be some sort of miracle and they will bring it back .

I hate that you are cancelling the Game and Reaper. These are two very good show and I don’t understand why you’re letting them go. There are not many shows that portray African Americans in a positive light and when you finally get one it’s put in a bad time slot and expected to pull good ratings. Some of the best show do poorly when put in a bad time slot. Come on be fair. Reaper is hilarious. That poor show never had a chance. Between the writers strike and starting late, it was doomed.

Im upset that you didnt give reaper a 3rd season. Replacing it with more stupid reality tv shows like we need anymore of them! Moving smallville to friday nites is a big mistake, it should have stayed with supernatural like it has done for all this time, and moved vampire diaries to friday nite. Priviledged should have gotten another season it beat out 90210 remake. Which isnt fair to Priviledged!!!!. I am looking forward to vampire diaries, I am reading the series now…. I can’t believe that Privileged lost out to Melrose Place! I remember Melrose Place and it does NOT need to be redone. Privileged needs another season! At least one more to give it a chance to develop more. It was a great show with great, funny actors that were awesome! I’m a regular CW viewer as I always watch Gossip Girl and Smallville, but I really enjoyed Privileged. I hope the CW reconsiders and decides to bring it back midseason at the very least.

I don’t get it anymore. It was not only girlfriends that we lost. We also lost All of Us, Eve, now the game. Every black show that is good, gets taken off the air. Why are they doing that? The game had everything that you would want a good show to have. Suspense, comedy, drama, great writers that made us guess from week to week what was going to happen, and most of all great actors, so why cancel it. You left it without an ending just like you did with girlfriends. There were so many good black shows, and they just keep getting the ax. Half and Half got cancelled without an ending. One on One ended without an ending. I could go on and list more and more black shows, but why even bother becasue you guys don’t care about what the viewers want. I hope that your station fails because you loose the audience that enjoyed good shows not reality shows and remakes. Without Lucus and Peyton, you might as well cancel One Tree Hill now. It wont make it without them. Oh well, the CW doesnt care anyway
You brought up some shows that were good and of course they had a cast that mostly black. It is sad that the shows that the black people like seem to get the X. The CW promised that they would be a diverse network, but we see that is a lie when all the black shows are cancel, except what American Top Model, who really watch that show anymore. Maybe all the black shows will have to go to BET or TNT, where they welcome black sitcom. There are a lot of the black shows that did not end with an ending and they did not care, because they just wanted to make room on the network for shows, that black people are not going to watch. Some black people may like the shows, but majority of us prefer the black shows, that had a mixture diversity on the shows. The CW does not care about it’s black audience.
Pissed off! Why the heck arent they bringing THE GAME back?? What is seriously wrong with those people? You cant seriously just end a show, with basically NO real ending for one.. 2. The show was frigging good!!! If it was put on a different day & time I guarantee it would have more viewers.. EVERYBODY I know watches the re-runs on BET! I bet tons of ppl tune in for that! I am so saddended that everytime we get a good black show on, it get cancelled. I can see Girlfriends getting cancelled because it did start to get a little boring. But The Game , was just warming up. I was excited about the show. And now it’s not returning.

I am SOOOO mad that shows like Privileged and Reaper are off the air. I don’t think Reaper was given a chance. I also followed The Game. I thought it was a decent show. The CW didn’t take it off the air because it was a “black” show. I’m not black and I watched it…when I was home on a Friday Night. That was the issue. They aired the show on Friday’s and I believe Sunday’s for a bit. They should have aired it sometime in the week. I believe it would have gotten better ratings.
I also think One Tree Hill is at a dead end and this should have been their final season. No offense to those who like it. I used to love it but the story lines were just horrible this past season.
Also, where is the creative energy at The CW??? While I like shows like 90210 and Melrose Place, did they really have to repeat both of them??? They seem to be re-writing other people’s ideas and cashing in on them. I look forward to The Vampire Diaries but did they possibly get that idea from the movie Twilight?? I think so.

I’m not going 2 say they cut it out because it was a black show but I think they are cancelling it because they don’t know what else they can do with the series……! looks like cbs,nbc,abc and fox no blacks aloud on these stations either so black people i suggest not to watch any of them, there is bet and tvone we are the reason why they keep canceling our shows. a tv show about some damn vampires come on now.but they act like we don’t own television sets or buy cable or even have lights if we all stop paying for cable lets see how long these tv shows and networks stay in business

Okay: I for one was looking to see The Game return back in the fall. Like many of the previous posting; put it against Tyler Perry’s sitcom the Brown and I guarantee you that CW – The Game will blow Meeting the Brown’s out of the water.
I am a fan of Smallville, the Reaper, and I love running home to watch The Game. Okay, Everybody Hates Chris was getting boring; however, there were some fans. I for one was not a fan but I ran home to watch The Game.

I will never feel for another show the way I felt about “The game” This sucks, so bad. Smallville to Fridays is an abomination!! If you want to go goth for Thursdays put Smallville on Wednesdays. America’s next top model is friggin ridiculous!! That show is about as stupid a TV show as there is…what demographic watches that? CW is making a HUGE mistake, gambling that Vampire Diaries will work. CW goes through a long contracr negotiation with Tom Welling and with rumors saying he signed on for two more years the show will still survive and be good for Thursdays. I am a huge fan of the game. Honestly, I just started watching the show during season three. Thank God BET is running the repeats and I am seeing it from the beginning. My girlfriends are watching it we had a conversation sharing how we were watching this new show… I am not sure how we all in our own way decided to watch this show but we have and are really enjoying it… THIS IS AN EXCELLENT SHOW. I am going to believe that CW will bring this show back in the October as it has for the last three seasons. They will see that there are many fans of The Game. There is so much more that is to be revealed in the show aboout Tasha & Rick, Malik & Robin, Derwin & Melanie and Kelly& Jason. It doesn’t make sense as to why this show was taken off the air. Please reconider what all the comments have been prior to mine and give this show another opportunity to continue on the air.
Why doesn’t the CW get some good shows on their station. The only decent ones are Smallville and superstitious. These Soap Opera’s are down right stupid. They have a channel for that the soap channel on cable. We don’t need a bunch of estrogen shows and reality shows about fashion and top models. Reality shows bite. And so do Soaps. These tiny bopper soaps belong on mid afternoon with the rest of the soaps where wantabe actors and actresses who cant act their way out of a paper bag can be watched by these women who eat bon bons and can not get dates wondering why derrick left Salley. I’m really pissed by the cw for cancelling The Game, Reaper, Everybody Hates Chris, and Privileged. Those shows were the reason why I watched the CW. I gonna stop watching this channel if they keep discriminating against African-Americans. And all of the shows are boring. Gossip Girls has recently gotten boring and 90210 is just stupid. I stopped watching that after 7 episodes. SCREW YOU CW!!!
I am really upset that “THE GAME” is not on the fall line up. You are bringing back shows for the teenagers and not for the mid age. You are going to leave us in no clue land with the way “THE GAME” ended the session. It is really messed up that there is going to be nothing left for the “black” people watch. No I can do without the reality shows really, they really need to get them off the TV. It is not really helping to sign petitions, leave comments to the CW about how they claim that they will be a diverse station, when they are lying through their teeth. All these shows that are on TV right now have some kind of soap opera to them. Some people that are making the comment that are negative about the show, don’t even watch the show. Just like I don’t watch Gossip Girl, which I think is a stupid show. The show is about everybody sleeping with everybody, which is usually told through the commercials. The CW really should rethink their decision about “The Game”, because trust me I look forward to watching them on Friday, not I will have to watch DVD’s, because there will be nothing on TV worth watching.
I wish the fans of the game could be provided a logically explanation as to why it is not in the Fall 2009 lineup for CW. Are they being switched to another network? Are the ratings down? The Game was one of the best black shows on CW, other than Girlfriends, which was also cancelled with no explanation. I feel as though the fans need some type of explanation. This is unfair to us. The show exhibited real life examples of the everyday life of individuals in atheletic industry. The Game should have been an hour long because it was that good. First you take away Girlfriends, now the Game, this is ludriacris…unbelievable. You are taken away one of the best shows ever. I have always been a fan of the CW network because it had so much diversity within their network. I enjoy not only the black shows, but I’m also a fan of Gossip Girl, One Tree Hill on Monday’s, 90210 on Tuesdays, and ANTM on Wednesdays, then The GAme to top it off on Fridays. With this news of the game being cancelled, I must say that I can no longer watch CW anymore, its seems to be something going on that is Unwarranted to just us fans alone. And based on all the comments above, I feel that the ratings for 2009 with CW will be down due to this cancellation.

My husband and I just discovered the Game about 6 months ago (that’s because it came on Friday nights and it was not marketed as well as it could have been). However, we have caught up and watched every episode of this great show. This show was so real and in your face that we are truly disappointed that the network has decided not to bring it back. we have told so many of your friends about the show and they too are sad to see the show die before it is really given the opportunity to show you what type of ratings it can yield now that people are aware of it. Give the show one more chance!!!
Not to sound like a broken record, but I LOVE THE GAME!!! I was a die hard fan, from day one. Monday nights and when they moved it to Friday night,my girls and I never missed a show. Honestly everyone I know watched this show. Black, white, Even guys!! So I really can’t believe it was the ratings. If anyone knows of another network picking it up please let me know!!! I was absolutely horrified to find out that The Game was cancelled!!! Every single episode kept me wanting more so I do not understand how that was not good enough to make the cut! I hope, if not CW, some other network sees how great this show truely was and brings it back. I know that there will be many disappointed fans if it isn’t.

I can’t believe they cancelled The Game. I recently got hooked to the re-runs on BET, and wondered where the show came from. I did some research and discovered in WAS a weekly show on the CW. I am very dissapointed in the CW’s choice to take the show off the air. I am sorry to sound repetitive, but I was an excellent show that portrayed African American’s in a positive way. From what I saw in the line-up, there aren’t going to be any shows in the 2009 fall line-up that have African American’s as main characters. CW, you will not have me as a viewer!

Wow, I checked the Fall 2009 TV lineup on the all the major networks (ABC, NBC, CW, FOX). There is not one show full of diversity. Yeah, there are shows with a few Asians, Hispanics or your one token African American (Lost, NCIS, Greys Anatomy) but nothing to compensate for the loss of Everybody Loves Chris or the The Game. It’s so sad that we are still raising today’s youth on The Cosby Show, Martin, Living Single and A Different World! And yes House of Payne and The Browns needs lots of help, but hopefully these new out of work writers will be hired by Tyler. But please Tyler, get out of the way and let the professionals do their jobs. Stick to the plays and movies:)

I think it’s really sad that there are no African American shows on the fall wb prime time line up. This is 2009, why would we not be able to look to television, the largest venue for entertainment and see people that we have commonalities with? I don’t believe that the executive team at the WB did not consider this when they came to the table to propose the fall line up. It’s pure racism and a blatant disregard for our people for them to not consider the disparity of shows that star other ethnicities and not for one second think about their loyal African American viewers. I can just make do with TV one and BET if this is how they want to play. This is wrong on so many levels. There is no reason why we should not have “Girlfriends” “Game” “Everybody Hates Chris”, “Half and Half”, “Moesha” or a host of other well casted, well directed and well written shows to chose from on any given night.
And as for Friday Nights, I will be tuned to Ghost Whisperer rather than Smallville. They have no idea how much fire I can fight with fire.

Who are these to target? It is so sad a show that a lot of people are fighting to stay on is being canceled leaving people wondering what could have been. Ok American Top Model is like all the other reality shows, they have played the course. The other shows I don’t watch and really don’t care for. “The Game” was a show that I truly looked forward to watching and giving 1 hr of my Friday to TV. The thing is that CW don’t care about the black population and who they would like to keep watching the CW. I have really lost 1 viewer of the CW. I will have to start watching all the reruns on BET, which should just by the rights of the show so that we can continue to watch what some of us really enjoy.

I have been watching CW since they had the frog, and I will say they don’t just axe black shows, they axe GOOD shows. They used to be the only network not afraid to step ‘outside’ of the box, now they are poorly following the pack. I remember 1 of my other fvorite shows they did not give a proper ending (POPULAR) it was AWESOME! Better for teens to watch instead of SEX, SEX and more SEX like I know The Beautiful Life will have. They have already tried and failed that with Models Inc, remember (also cancelled). So I think we know how it will end, or Miss crazy Barton will leave it too when it gets popular like she did the O.C, DUE TO FEAR of typecasting-whatever! And VAMPIRE DIARY? I am MORE than sure it won’t hold a torch to ‘the master’ BUFFY! (Enough said) jumping the wale people.. Disaster waiting to happen. Now, the ONLY other show I even make my 53 year old caucasion co-worker watch (and she was hooked too) on Fridays at lunch, The Game has also been wacked. On another note- that the CW SHOULD MAYBE WRITE DOWN, I am a huge fan of Nip/Tuck on FX. I KNOW when it will be ending (2011) because they ordered a certain amout of episodes. My point is, atleast give the fans a heads up AND give us a proper season finale! Was that baby even Derwin’s? The world will never know……..
You mention Buffy the Vampire and that was the show in every way. I feel that the new shows are no where near Buffy the Vampire, she kicked ass in that show. I am glad that NIP/Tuck is on FX, because the CW probably would have cut that show and the content of the sex screens. I ask for a proper season finale of The Game. I am sick of all the reality shows, why not put some really shows in those slots. Time to get real network. Is there nothing else out there to write about, except stupid reality shows?

I just started watching ” The Game” on BET and I love it! I found out tonight after doing research on the internet that the show was out since 2006. I really didn’t get a chance to watch TV, since I was working two jobs. However, I think everyone that wants the show to come back should think positive. I think that we all should call CW and start a petition to have the show come back or maybe another network will pick the show up. Another network picked up D.L. Hughley’s show when it was cancelled. I didn’t know that upn and cw were merging together. I really hope that the show comes back. That would be wonderful. I still need to catch up with the rest of shows that were not shown on BET. I didn’t have a chance to watch it during the semesterd due to classes but I recorded every episode, commericals and all and watched them on the weekend. The CW cancelled all 1/2 hour shows and comedy shows on purpose. Their goal was to become a 1-hour, drama oriented station for teens and young adults. That’s why Reaper, The Game, etc. got the boot.
Like that there keeping OTHill love what the show had to offer. Though it feels like the show has had its run, that last episode would have been a good final episode. It seem that there are some people out there that need a little attention. Just because a person would rather stay home and watch 1 hour of TV (The Game), does not mean the person does not have a life. It just means that they like the show enough to wait to hit the clubs (what?says).
People are letting out their feelings and letting the network know how they feel. Regardless of how you see what?says the network has taking off the shows that matter to people and it so happen to be the shows that had bad time slots and the case where mostly black. That is the reason why they started this blog. Just like you spoke your mind on how you felt about what people were saying, you don’t have to say anything, but you want to cause trouble and cause for a back lash from people who would be hurt by the words that you used.
The CW is right is trying to keep the audience of the teens, but forgetting the other teens that love real shows. Is it fair that the shows that people are fighting to stay on are being ignored by the CW. I am sorry I am not a fan of any of the shows that you mention what? says. It reminds me of watching soap opera, everybody sleeping with somebody or a ton of fighting. I just feel that CW should really try to meet all their viewers. Annie you have every right to feel the way that you did toward what?says. We have bright people and then we have people who like to start shit. Take care all….
I don’t feel like people who are upset about the show ending don’t have lives. I feel that they are upset that a good show was coming to an end in a bad way. There was no closure at all and the last episode left people really thinking there was going to be another show. Also, I actually was reading online and even on TV guide they pointed out that the show didn’t have terrible ratings and even had higher ratings on some episodes than some of the shows that are coming back. Again, I feel that the reason that people are upset is not so much the fact that the show is supposedly over, as much as how the show ended. Now on a positive note, I have been following this and I’m happy to say that another major network is trying to get the rights to air the new episodes. So fans keep your fingers crossed.

excuse me, I’m a teen I’m 16 I watch girlfriends and the game and I’m a big fan of the tv shows it really pisses me off how cw said the shows will b more diverse , well its not in each tv show “one tree hill” smallville” 90210″ gossip girl” all have 1 black person that’s it but its never diverse the game and girlfriends focus on the daily lives of black ppl , cw wasn’t marketing or doing anything 2 pump the game up
Yes you are very correct. I am a 18 year old college student and I feel as if Cw wasnt doing enough to bring attention to the amazing show. I nam really hoping that BET picks this show up. If it does they will have one more watching and Cw will have lost one.
i am very upset that the game is not apart of the fall line up. this show was actually the best show on the cw. you are definitely going to lose out on alot of viewers due to the cancellation. The petition is on its way. first Martin, girlfriends, now this I have had enough!!!
I can’t believe CW cancelled Privileged & Reaper. You get into these great shows and then out of nowhere they are gone. They should reconsider in the least! I’m still holding out hope!
Hey Kia,I am with you 100%. I was upset how girlfriends was no longer on and now I see that the Game won’t be on either. That was pretty much the only show I was watching on the CW. I love The Game, and I and very upset to find out that their won’t be another season. If they would just put it on another day, ppl would watch. Putting it on friday night is not a good air time. The Game is one of the few shows that I do watch on the CW, I think they should give it another season with a different day, and then see how well it may or may not do. I know if they put it on another season I will definetly be watching.

I think that this is another case of a good show being dropped to make room for been there done that. What do we need 90210 or Melrose Place for, again? We do not need remakes of old shows. Just like we aren’t looking for remakes of old movies.
We have watched them cancel Girlfriends and left us hanging. UPN dropped All of Us and left us hanging. Half and Half was dropped out of nowhere. It is hard to find anything on television that african americans can identify with that is not stereotypical gangs, guns….drive by shootings and police stories. When I think of all the seasons that That 70’s show and friends was kept around, it is a crying shame that all the shows that we find interesting are continually cancelled. You go to pay TV and you find …. WEEDS (it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to guess this one)….Californication (the name says it all)…..Nurse Jackie (Drugged Up medical practitioner) …. Dexter (a Serial Killer). Need I say more. Or I get so may crime dramas it’s pathetic. Can’t you for once set the pace instead of following the leader and give Pay TV something to compete with?
I agree with you, Half and Half was dropped all of a sudden. I just think they don’t give the fans of the black shows any closure. Back in the day we used to know when a show was going to end. We all knew when the Cosby show and A Different World were over. The writers basically gave us closure and let us what the characters were going to be doing. Even Good Times had a real finale episode! Now, you turn on tv on the night of your show and you don’t even know it and its just gone. Nothing last forever but would be asking too much for closure! I like that you pointed out “That 70’s show” b/c who really watched that show after the first few seasons. I mean it was bad after the first few seasons yet it kept coming on. Why??
Wow. smallville got moved to Fridays? What the heck. Fridays are like the crap nights where all the rejected shows go. I mean come on? It’s airing with reruns of ANTM. That’s so ridiculous. Smallville just lost all it’s ratings.

I am disappointed The Game has been canceled. I watched Girlfriends and the game. I am sorry to see the African American shows take a hit. I like America’s next top model, but that is not enough to keep me turning to the CW. I truly hope CW see a drop in their viewers and have a change in mind. Bring back “The Game”.
OMG the CW has lost touch with reality … I hope they don’t expect black people to continue to watch the rest of their lame shows. The Game was the best show and of course the ratings fell off because most people dnt watch tv on Friday nights … I know I always missed it because I am in the band and had a football game to go to every Friday night but please believe that I tuned in to watch the reruns. Also I saw not one commercial advertising for the show but u could not turn on the CW without seeing a One tree hill or gossip girl commercial. Those two shows were semi-interesting but pale in comparison to the game. I LOVE THE GAME!!!!!

I just found out that The Game has been cancelled. OMG is the CW network crazy! It was a great show with realistic situations and reactions. This is a sad and wrong move on the CW’s part. I really loved that show. I guess I will now boycott this channel. I hope everyone who loved this show will boycott and not watch other shows on this channel as well.
I realized that “The Game” is not on the schedule. This show was very entertaining. Also, the finale was an attention grabber, to just end the show like that was not cool! The funny thing about is….they (CW) did the same thing to “Girlfriends”. The crazy thing is that they (CW) doesn’t even show the re-runs, but they show “Gossip Girl”. BET is showing “The Game” more than the network that the show originally came from!

i think not bringing the game back is almost as messed up as moving smallville. i mean is this how u treat your highest rated show. i sericously considered boycotting and i might just do it and watch smallville online. this is becoming a thing of principles i feel like im being disrecpted and they the cw might need to learn a lession and that lession might mean boycotting. also reaper didnt really get a chance it was a funny show i just kinda forgot about. not to say i dont like one oor two of the new shows coming im just tired of them pushing aside the good shows that were already there. like one tree hill which move days so much that i stopped watching.

“THE GAME” deserves another chance. I’ve watched every episode from the very beginning and the actors and the plot line getting better each season. Shows like this need our support from the beginning and not when they are being cancelled.

I’m so tired of listening to ppl scream racism… Fyi african americans are not the only ones who have to deal with racism… And in the same respect the game was a great show and it sucks that it got cancelled but so was privileged… Everyone has different tastes and it sucks they took both shows off the air- but please no more oh they are racist – they are not racist they just have no clue what a good show is.
Well, I finally have a reason to turn of my “Elctronic Income Reducer.” With no more great shows like “The Game” and “Everybody Hates Chris,” I can finally complete some projects that I’ve been putting off.
I hate that the game was cancelled. It remains a fact that there are absolutely no good black shows on any network let alone the “CW” (catered to whites) I understand that it mostly heeds to teens, but there are black teens out there as well not just these white kids that are fighting over who slept with whom at the age from 13 and on. 90210, OTH, and the bs of Melrose Place are all crap. I don’t understand why you cancelled “REAPER”. I don’t watch CW because most of the shows on there suck,but I rented the last 2 reaper seasons,thought they were great and decided to give the CW a chance. I looked up when the next season started to find you cancelled it. So I will not be tuning in to the CW for any reason now. Your Loss.
I used to watch the CW weekly, I watched the Game, Girlfriends (was really sad when they cut them without even giving the fans a series finale), Privileged (it was ok), 90210, ANTM. There were good shows now there is no real good show apart from 90210 (which is for a particular audience) and ANTM. I used to love Melrose Place, what they did to it should be a crime it sucks, Vampire Diaries is a joke. The CW is now the station that you laugh at. I will be watching CBS, NBC good thing they haven’t entirely lost their sense of creativity and innovation.
And I am not quite sure if I should be appalled or not at the fact that there are African American series on television at the moment apart from reruns?

Here we go again, first Girlfriends and now The Game. So frustrating! I LOVE Tom Welling but Smallville is not as interesting as it used to be. I can’t even get into Supernatural the way I used to. One Tree Hill is another favorite, but it’s now on with House! I choose House. So now, there’s nothing left for me on the CW besides Smallville. Don’t watch anything else. Anyway, I’m down with the boycotting thing. They really need to do something different.

The game should not be cancelled. It is one of the best shows I have ever watched. I know a lot of people including myself, that would run home from work and wait until it came on. A lot of young adults relate to the show. The actors and actress are awesome! PLEASE DON’T CANCEL!

I think it’s really messed up that they got rid of the last afro-american t.v. show. I do not want to see all of those lilly white teeny boppers shows. the game was a show for mature adults of all races and then you guys go and take the game off, that’s really messed up for us. I am in total agreement with the majority of the above. I will boycott your channel also,for your refusal to include the Game in your 2009 Fall line-up. The game was one show that was truly a head and shoulders above the rest. The writers kept the storylines fresh, funny, and mature. Not like this cookie cutter juvenile mess you are forcing down the viewers throats now. You are so out of touch! You also cut Everybody hates Chris, I mean, just a total lack of diversity in programming. And how many slots does America’s Next Top Model need.
