TBS Taps George Lopez For Talk Show

The project represents Lopez’s return to series TV after his self-titled ABC’s sitcom ran for six seasons. The as-yet-untitled series will launch in November at 11 pm weeknights, putting its second half hour against NBC’s The Tonight Show and CBS’ Late Night.
The network plans an “outdoor street-party atmosphere” along with celebrity guests, live music and comedy acts. The show will also feature audience members interacting with guests. The program is from 2.2 Productions, paraMedia Inc. and Telepictures Productions, with Lopez executive producing along with Jim Paratore.
“George Lopez is a special talent, with an everyman appeal that makes him uniquely positioned to be the next great late-night host,” said Michael Wright, exec vp, head of programming for TBS. “George and TBS are going to change the late-night television landscape and bring a brand-new energy to the talk-show genre by giving it a street-party atmosphere. We’re excited to see this show come to life.”
