Veteran actor Joel Grey, 77, will appear in a November episode of Grey’s Anatomy as Izzie’s old high school teacher. “It’s a pretty amazing episode,” says show creator Shonda Rhimes. “He was the teacher who convinced Izzie (Katherine Heigl) she was more than a girl from the trailer park. And now he’s in need of her help.”

Premiering tonight on TV are the season premieres of Heroes, House, Castle, Dancing With The Stars, How I Met Your Mother, Accidentally On Purpose, Two and a Half Men, The Big Bang Theory and CSI: Miami.

Season 6 begins with House as a detoxing patient at a mental hospital. He’s being held against his will by his attending physician but concocts an escape plan, aided by his roommate, Alvie, and a visitor named Lydia.

Michael Benjamin Washington has joined 100 Questions. The show stars Sophie Winkleman as Charlotte, who, looking for love, joins an online-dating site. Washington will play her dating counselor. Washing replaces Amir Talai, who played the dating counselor in the pilot.

The nominations in the major category were announced early Thursday morning by Parsons and Chandra Wilson of ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy who were joined by the chairman of the Academy of TV Arts and Sciences John Shaffner.
Fox hit Family Guy became the first animated series in nearly 50 years, and the second ever, to land a best comedy series nomination, following The Flintstones in 1961.
Seven half-hours made it in to the best comedy series category, with two more first-timers, HBO’s offbeat The Flight of the Conchords, CBS’ often overlooked How I Met Your Mother and Showtime’s veteran Weeds. They will compete against defending champ 30 Rock, previous winner The Office and HBO’s Entourage.
