Eddie McClintock has signed on for a guest role. He will play Ted’s brother, Billy. A fast-talking salesman type, Billy brings chaos into Ted’s life and proves to be a bad influence on Lem and Phil. He is shooting the episode this week.

ABC continues to prune its Wednesday night schedule of freshman shows. Five episodes in, the network is pulling the plug on Kelsey Grammer’s Hank. The show is filming episode 10 and will stop production after wrapping that episode. ABC has no immediate plans to run the remaining five episodes. For the next few weeks, the network will air a combination of comedy repeats and holiday specials in Hank’s Wednesday 8:00 PM/ET time slot. The network already preempted the show once for a Charlie Brawn Halloween special last month.

ABC has picked up freshman comedies Modern Family, Cougar Town and The Middle for full seasons. The shows have performed strong against significant competition during the latter hour of ABC’s comedy block.
No word yet on back-nine pickups for fellow shows FlashForward, Hank, Eastwick, and The Forgotten.

The 2009 Fall Season is upon us and that signals the return of Premiering Tonight. Welcome to Premiering Tonight, highlighting all the new and returning shows premiering on the Fall 2009 schedule.
Premiering tonight on TV are the season premieres of Hank, The Middle and I Didn’t Know I was Pregnant.

Kelsey Grammer returns to television with a new sitcom. Grammer plays Hank Pryor, a business giant in the sports-retail arena who gets benched in a force-out, and, in the opener, takes his family back home to Virginia to try to rebuild his career and adjust to simply being a father and husband.

Chris Kattan has been cast in ABC’s new comedy The Middle. He will be a regular on the show. Kattan, who guest-starred in the pilot, will play Bob, a good friend of fellow car salesman Frankie Heck (Patricia Heaton). The Middle is a single-camera comedy about a middle-class Midwestern family seen through the eyes of the mother (Heaton). It is slated to premiere September 30, airing in the 8:30 PM/ET Wednesday slot.

Stephen McPherson, president, ABC Entertainment Group, outlined ABC’s plans for next season and unveiled the network’s 2009-10 fall schedule before the advertising and media communities at Lincoln Center’s Avery Fisher Hall. New fall and midseason series include Cougar Town, The Deep End, Eastwick, Flash Forward, The Forgotten, Hank, Happy Town, The Middle, Modern Family, Shark Tank and V.
Better Off Ted, Castle, Scrubs and True Beauty join previously announced returning series America’s Funniest Home Videos, The Bachelor, Brothers and Sisters, Dancing with the Stars, Desperate Housewives, Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, Grey’s Anatomy, Lost, Private Practice, Supernanny, Ugly Betty, Wife Swap and 20/20.
