Jenna Elfman has been cast as the lead of CBS’ comedy pilot Accidentally on Purpose. The casting of Elfman lifts the contingency on the show. The project, from CBS Par and BermanBraun, revolves around Billie (Elfman), a San Francisco movie critic who finds herself “accidentally” pregnant after a fling with a younger man, and the unconventional family that comes from this “mistake.”

The first is a traditional nuclear unit, the second includes a 60-year-old man (O’Neill) who becomes a stepfather after marrying a Latina (Sofia Vergara) 30 years his junior, and the third comprises a gay couple (Stonestreet, Jesse Tyler Ferguson) who have adopted a Vietnamese baby.
