Richard Dean Anderson Joins Stargate: Continuum

March 21st, 2007 | 1 Comment

Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios Inc. announced that Richard Dean Anderson will reprise his role as Gen. Jack O’Neill in the studio’s upcoming straight-to-DVD movie Stargate: Continuum, based on SCI FI Channel’s original series Stargate SG-1. Anderson will join cast members Ben Browder and Amanda Tapping in shooting on location in the sub-zero climate of the Arctic, where the production is working in collaboration with the U.S. Navy’s Applied Physics Laboratory Ice Station during the week of March 23-29, MGM announced.

“We’re thrilled to have Richard join us for Stargate: Continuum,” Brad Wright, co-creator of the Stargate franchise and writer/executive producer for the latest installment for the property, said in a statement. “As Gen. Jack O’Neill, Richard brings both a sense of history and familiarity to the continuing adventures of the Stargate team. And we all recognize his value as the much-loved hero among the Stargate fan base.” As previously announced, Stargate: Continuum will shoot a variety of scenes on location in the Arctic ice, located about 200 miles north of Prudhoe Bay, Alaska. Martin Wood, director of more than 70 Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis episodes, is confirmed to direct Stargate: Continuum.

Stargate SG-1 Continues On In DVD Movies

October 11th, 2006 | 0 Comments

Stargate SG-1 will wrap up its 10-year run this spring, but that’s not the end of the saga. Executive producer Brad Wright told TV Guide that MGM has granted a green light, and enough money, to produce two movies, most likely for DVD. The first film will tie up most of the finale’s loose threads. “It’s the climax of the Ori storyline,” Wright said, and will be written and directed by executive producer Robert Cooper. The second film, written by Wright, will involve time travel, and both projects should debut in the fall of 2007. Though no deals are signed, SG-1’s stars are said to be “very eager” to continue, Wright added. “They’re not big-budget [films] by any definition, but for us it’s pretty good,” he said. “As we’ve proven over the years, just give us little more money and we can make pretty good television or DVDs.”

Brad Wright, executive producer of SCI FI Channel’s original series Stargate SG-1, told SCI FI Wire that the upcoming 10th season will take the current storyline to the next level with the addition of an important new character. Speaking in an interview on the show’s Vancouver, Canada, set, where the 10th season is now shooting, Wright offered these spoilers: “The other big change … is the introduction of a new character, who is basically the leader of the Ori in our galaxy. And her name is Adria.”
