Jennifer Jason Leigh Lights Up Weeds

Jennifer Jason Leigh has joined Showtime’s Weeds, playing Mary-Louise Parker’s estranged older sister. Leigh is set to appear in at least two episodes of the series which was just picked up for a 5 and 6 season.

As Nancy finds herself and her family in harm’s way, she sends her brother-in-law, Andy, to take her son, Shane, to live with her estranged older sister, Jill. But when Jill gets fed up with her own suburban family, she finds her way back into Nancy’s life – jealous, frustrated and intent on finally hashing things out with her little sister.

The fifth season of Weeds premieres in June.

Showtime Renews The Tudors For Fourth And Final Season

Showtime has renewed the historical melodrama The Tudors for a fourth and final season. The pickup consists of 10 episodes that Showtime says will dramatize King Henry VIII’s last two tumultuous marriages, to Catherine Howard and Catherine Parr. The new episodes will continue the show’s current quickened matrimonial pace of going through two wives per season, a narrative strategy that was planned from the show’s outset given that Henry’s first two wives (Katherine of Aragon and Anne Boleyn) were the best known and most influential.

Alexa Junge Leaves The United States Of Tara

Alexa Junge, the executive producer/showrunner of Showtime’s United States of Tara, has decided not to continue on the series, which recently was renewed for a second season. Bringing Junge on board was key to securing a series order for the show, created by Oscar winner Diablo Cody.

The search is under way for new showrunner to take over the series. The Showtime/DreamWorks TV-produced United States of Tara has wrapped production on Season 1, which is still airing original episodes on Showtime Sunday nights. Junge wrote three episodes this season, the last of which airs Sunday.
