TNT Cancels Saving Grace, Too Expensive For Fox TV Studios

TNT has canceled Saving Grace. The acclaimed drama will come to an end with a nine-episode final season scheduled to air next summer. Originally, the network had ordered a 15-episode third season, with nine to run this summer and six in the winter. TNT now has ordered three more episodes, which will be added to the six earmarked for winter, and the nine episodes will run next summer. Saving Grace has been a ratings success for TNT, pulling in an average of more than 3.5 million viewers this past summer and ranks first in its time period for the adults and the women 25-54 demographics.

2009 Emmy Nominations Announced

The nominations in the major category were announced early Thursday morning by Parsons and Chandra Wilson of ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy who were joined by the chairman of the Academy of TV Arts and Sciences John Shaffner.

Fox hit Family Guy became the first animated series in nearly 50 years, and the second ever, to land a best comedy series nomination, following The Flintstones in 1961.

Seven half-hours made it in to the best comedy series category, with two more first-timers, HBO’s offbeat The Flight of the Conchords, CBS’ often overlooked How I Met Your Mother and Showtime’s veteran Weeds. They will compete against defending champ 30 Rock, previous winner The Office and HBO’s Entourage.

TNT Announces Upcoming Series, Development At 2009 Upfront

TNT to Boost an Already Strong Primetime Lineup with Three New Original Series this Summer; Development Plans Include Projects from Steven Spielberg and Steven Bochco

This summer, four original series return to TNT. The lineup is led by The Closer, ad-supported cable’s #1 series of all time. The Closer is in its fifth season, starring Golden Globe winner Kyra Sedgwick. The series will be joined by the third season of Saving Grace, starring Academy Award winner Holly Hunter, and the second seasons of Raising The Bar, from executive producer Steven Bochco, and Leverage, from executive producer Dean Devlin.
