The 2009 Fall Season is upon us and that signals the return of Premiering Tonight. Welcome to Premiering Tonight, highlighting all the new and returning shows premiering on the Fall 2009 schedule.

Premiering tonight on TV are the season premieres of Bones, Suvivor: Samoa, Saturday Night Live Weekend Update, Parks and Recreation, Fringe, The Office, Community and It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.

Bones – 8:00 PM/ET on Fox
In the fifth-season premiere, work resumes for Brennan, who’s back from a dig in Guatemala, and Booth, anxious to return to duty six weeks after his brain surgery, when Angela’s psychic (Cyndi Lauper) suggests there are bodies buried under a fountain in Washington, D.C.

2009 Emmy Nominations Announced

The nominations in the major category were announced early Thursday morning by Parsons and Chandra Wilson of ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy who were joined by the chairman of the Academy of TV Arts and Sciences John Shaffner.

Fox hit Family Guy became the first animated series in nearly 50 years, and the second ever, to land a best comedy series nomination, following The Flintstones in 1961.

Seven half-hours made it in to the best comedy series category, with two more first-timers, HBO’s offbeat The Flight of the Conchords, CBS’ often overlooked How I Met Your Mother and Showtime’s veteran Weeds. They will compete against defending champ 30 Rock, previous winner The Office and HBO’s Entourage.

NBC Announces 2009 Fall Premiere Dates

NBC kicks off the Fall 2009 season on Monday, September 14 with the highly anticipated primetime debut of The Jay Leno Show (10:00 PM/ET), followed by the premiere of the network’s marquee night of comedy on Thursday, September 17, as Saturday Night Live Weekend Update Thursday and new series Community join Parks and Recreation and Emmy winner The Office.

NBC’s dramas will premiere with a two-hour Heroes on Monday, September 21 (8:00 PM/ET), the compelling family drama Parenthood premieres on Wednesday, September 23 (8:00 PM/ET) leading into Law & Order: SVU (9:00 PM/ET). The new high-octane Trauma will premiere the following Monday, September 28 (9:00 PM/ET).

NBC Announces 2009-2010 Primetime Lineups

NBC has announced its pickups for the 2009-2010 primetime season including four dramas, two comedies and three renewals. NBC officially picked up new dramas Trauma, Parenthood, Mercy and Day One (which will air as a limited-run event) and comedies Community and 100 Questions. Beyond the six new shows, NBC also gave a go-ahead to returning shows Southland, Heroes, Parks and Recreation and six new Thursday night Saturday Night Live Weekend Update episodes. Patricia Arquette’s Medium received a pickup Sunday morning, though its exact order was being worked out and expected to be in the 13-18 episode range.

Seth Meyers Taking Over On SNL Weekend Update

Entertainment Weekly is reporting that Saturday Night Live producer Lorne Michaels has tapped Seth Meyers to join Amy Poehler in anchoring Saturday Night Live’s Weekend Update, filling the void left by Tina Fey.

Meyers – who’s also taking Fey’s spot as a head writer on the show – feels like the gig was tailor-made for him. ”I’m one of the few people in show business who wanted a job where I had to wear a tie,” he says. ”My goal is to be a slightly less handsome Brian Williams.” While the new gig means no more sketches, he’s happy to be spending time catching up on the (real) news. ”Have you heard about the Middle East?” he laughs. ”Man, that place is nuts.”
