TLC Orders Cake Boss, Renews American Chopper

TLC has ordered a new series called Cake Boss that follows baker Buddy Valastro. His elaborate confections for celebrities like Britney Spears have been featured on shows ranging from Today to The Sopranos. The show will follow the New Jersey-based Valastro and his Italian family as they run Carlo’s Bakery in Hoboken. TLC will air the show’s pilot April 19, with the series launching in early June.

Spike TV Aquires Replay Rights For Band Of Brothers

Spike TV has acquired the rights to air HBO’s acclaimed minseries Band of Brothers. The cable network will run the 10-part World War II drama in the third quarter of this year. The acquisition is part of Spike’s effort to promote complimentary military efforts True Dads: In Uniform and the UFC Fight for the Troops.

DirecTV Extends NFL Sunday Ticket Through 2014

DirecTV has signed a four-year, $4 billion extension with the National Football League that will keep NFL Sunday Ticket game coverage on the satellite service through 2014. Announced Monday at the NFL owners meeting in Dana Point, the $1 billion-a-season pact replaces the current agreement, which pays the league $700 million a campaign and is set to expire in 2010. The renewal also includes a broadened level of service.

Fox Gets A Third Helping Of Kitchen Nightmares

Fox has ordered another season of Kitchen Nightmares in which the internationally known chef Gordon Ramsey gives tough-love makeovers to restaurants. The BBC remake wrapped its second season in January.

The network also is expected to announce shortly that Ramsay’s other series, Hell’s Kitchen, will return for a new season this summer. Hell’s Kitchen recently shot back-to-back fifth and sixth seasons. Rather than continuing to parcel out the show one season per year, Fox will take the unprecedented step of airing two seasons back to back.

DirecTV Picks Up Smith, The Nine And Eyes

DirecTV has picked up three more short-lived series to run on its 101 Network, bringing back episodes of mid-2000s dramas Smith, The Nine and Eyes. The eal was made with Warner Brothers Domestic TV Distribution to bring back all three shows, which were canceled with additional episodes left unaired. The decision to bring back Smith, The Nine and Eyes is similar to its run this year of the short-lived Imagine TV drama Wonderland.

Smith will air first, starting Wednesday, April 8 at 10 pm. The drama, which originally aired in 2006 on CBS, comes with seven episodes – four of which were never broadcast. The Nine will air in the same slot starting May 27. The 101 will feature all 13 episodes – including four that never aired during the show’s 2006 ABC run. Eyes will air as a lead-in to The Nine on Wednesdays at 9 pm beginning in July.

Animal Planet Renews Jockeys For A Second Season

Animal Planet has renewed its horse-racing-themed reality show Jockeys for a second season. Produced by Animal Planet in conjunction with Go Go Luckey, the series tracks jockeys competing at Southern Calfornia’s Santa Anita Race Track. Season two of the skein, which will feature seven hourlong episodes and premiere during the summer, will return six jockeys from the first season while introducing two new ones.
