Privileged has cast NYPD Blue actress Sharon Lawrence in the pivotal role of Shelby, deadbeat mom to Megan and Lily. Brash and larger-than-life, she resurfaces 15 years after leaving her kids to fulfill her own destiny. Lawrence is committed to appearing in two episodes (the first of which airs in January), but that number could climb provided The CW orders the show’s back nine episodes.

Michael Ausiello is reporting that Dave Franco, the up-and-coming younger brother of movie star James Franco, is joining Privileged for a multi-episode arc. He’ll play a love interest for Rose (Lucy Hale). Franco’s previous credits include Fox’s short-lived comedy debacle Do Not Disturb and ABC’s Family’s awesome Greek. His Privileged arc kicks off in early 2009.

The CW has ordered a couple more scripts for its underdog soap Privileged says The Hollywood Reporter. The drama has been struggling in ratings on Tuesday nights, yet has demonstrated some growth in recent weeks even as lead-in 90210 has softened. The last Privileged episode was up 22% to 2.3 million viewers, 1.1 adults 18-49 rating and a 3 share. The CW considers Privileged firmly on brand for the network, and continued growth could result in a pickup despite lower-than-average CW ratings.
