ABC Shuffling Private Practice, Life On Mars

By Editor on November 11th, 2008 / 0 Comments

ABC has some intriguing scheduling experiments planned for early next year. The network is looking to move Private Practice to Thursdays at 10 PM/ET behind Grey’s Anatomy. When Practice Practive was first announced, most assumed it would launch behind Grey’s Anatomy, but the network wanted to try and spread the medical brand to another night, and some suspected two hours from the same dramatic universe on Thursday might be trying for fans. Plus, it kept the post-Grey’s Anatomy slot free to try and launch other new shows with less brand recognition. With declining ratings and the two medical dramas planning multi-episode crossover story lines for the February sweep, pairing the two shows for a Seattle Grace alums block makes more sense.

Life on Mars will move to Wednesdays at 10 PM/ET behind the new season of ABC’s hit drama Lost. Life on Mars and Lost seem like a potentially satisfied couple. Life on Mars is the more down-to-earth of the pair, yet the two have enough mutual fantastical elements.

TV Guide is reporting that ABC is planning a multi-episode crossover story with Grey’s Anatomy and its spin-off, Private Practice. They are looking to air the crossover episodes during February sweeps. Still in the development stage, the number of episodes and the actors involved has yet to be decided. Kate Walsh’s Dr. Addison Montgomery will again return to Seattle Grace, as she did for one episode last spring. Grey’s Anatomy is currently in its fifth season on ABC. The concept for Private Practice first emerged in the form of a back-door pilot/May 2007 episode of Grey’s Anatomy in which Addison ventured to Los Angeles to catch up with her friend Naomi.

Buffy/Angel actor Alexis Denisof will guest in the November 19 episode of ABC’s Private Practice. Denisof will play a father-to-be who comes to Oceanside Wellness with a pregnant wife in tow. He then returns later, with a second expectant wife in need of Addison’s attention.

ABC Picks Up Private Practice For Full Season

By Editor on October 22nd, 2008 / 0 Comments

ABC has picked up Private Practice for a full season. The network has given a back-nine order to the sophomore drama from ABC Studios. Private Practice is ABC’s tentpole show on Wednesday nights, the ringleader of a trio of sophomore shows interrupted by the writers strike. All have returned down significantly this year, but Private Practice has maintained the highest rating of the bunch. Private Practice is the latest network series to get a full-season pickup, following NBC’s Knight Rider and Chuck, CBS’ The Mentalist, Fox’s Fringe and Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles and the CW’s 90210.
