Starz Orders Ten Episodes Of Failure To Fly

Starz has given a 10-episode order to a half-hour dark comedy Failure to Fly from Eric Schaeffer and Jill Franklyn. The show revolves around a support group for people who tried to commit suicide but are now embracing their second chance at a happy life. Schaeffer will co-star and executive produce along with Franklyn. Starz ordered the series on the strength of its concept. Schaeffer and Franklyn are already working on scripts and are in the process of filling out the cast. Failure to Fly is scheduled to debut in the spring of 2010.

FX Picks Up Lawman With Timothy Olyphant

FX has picked up Lawman to series, previously known as Fire in the Hole. Written by Graham Yost, the show is based on the Leonard character Raylan Givens featured in his short story Fire in the Hole. Timothy Olyphant stars as U.S. Marshal Givens, a modern-day 19th-century-style lawman enforcing his brand of justice in a way that puts a target on his back with criminals and places him at odds with his bosses in the Marshal service. Lawman will start production on its series order this fall in Southern California for a spring 2010 premiere.

NBC Picks Up Persons Unknown

NBC has picked up Persons Unknown, the Fox TV Studios drama series from Oscar winner Christopher McQuarrie. The order is for 13-episodes. Persons Unknown, executive produced by showrunner Remi Aubuchon, McQuarrie and Heather McQuarrie, stars Jason Wiles and Daisy Betts and revolves around a group of strangers who wake up in a deserted town with no recollection of how they got there, only to realize that they are watched by omnipresent security cameras. To escape, they must work together to solve a surreal puzzle.

Some expected the show, which is heavily serialized, to go to a cable network, but NBC also has serialized fare such as Heroes and the upcoming post-apocalyptic drama Day One.

Bravo Picks Up The Real Housewives Of New York City For Third Season

Bravo has picked up The Real Housewives of New York City for a third season, but might feature a new group of Manhattan socialites. Announcing that the reality series will return in 2010, Bravo said it is “casting for additional housewives” amid reports about a salary dispute between the cable network and the six cast members: Alex McCord, Bethenny Frankel, Jill Zarin, Kelly Killoren Bensimon, LuAnn de Lesseps and Ramona Singer.

Negotiations between the stars and Bravo are ongoing. Production on the third season of the Shed Media U.S.-produced show is slated to begin in the fall.

ABC Picks Up Defying Gravity

ABC has picked up Fox TV Studios’ 13-episode adventure drama Defying Gravity starring Ron Livingston. Defying Gravity, whose cast includes Laura Harris, Christina Cox, Malik Yoba and Florentine Lahme, is set in the near future and revolves around eight astronauts from five countries who undertake a mysterious six-year mission through the solar system. The series, slated to air on ABC this summer, is a co-venture with Vancouver-based Omni Film Prods., whose Brian Hamilton and Michael Chechik also executive produce.

AMC Picks Up Rubicon For 12 Episode Season

AMC has picked up the political thriller Rubicon, starring James Badge Dale. The show, from writer Jason Horwitch and Warner Horizon, has received a 12-episode order. Directed by Allen Coulter, the project revolves around a secret society that pulls the strings on the world political stage. It centers on Will Travers (Dale), a brilliant analyst at a national think tank who discovers that his employers are not who they seem to be.
