Lifetime Lands Cable Rights To Mad Money

Lifetime has acquired the cable TV rights to Mad Money, the first picture released by Overture Films. The cable netwokr will pay license fees to Overture of just under $4 million, around 20% of the film’s $20 million domestic gross. Lifetime can begin airing the film in the second quarter of 2010. The deal was brokered by Starz Media, the parent company of Overture that handles the studio’s domestic TV sales.

Directed by Callie Khouri, the comedy about a group of women who begin robbing banks stars Diane Keaton, Queen Latifah, Katie Holmes and Ted Danson. It opened in January 2008.

Shelby Lynne will appear in an August episode, playing a country music singer whom Roxy adored while growing up, but now is “down and out,” Brigid Brannagh (Pamela) says “Roxy ends up befriending her – and then she sings a little ditty at the Hump Bar, which is pretty cool.”

Appearing in the episode immediately following is Gilmore Girls actress Kelly Bishop. She’ll be playing the wife of a late, great state senator, in town to attend a building-naming ceremony. Charged with entertaining the special guest, Claudia Joy and Denise come to realize the not-so-weeping widow’s secret – that she’s a cougar!

Lifetime Announces 2009 Summer Preimere Dates

Lifetime has announced that Project Runway will premiere on their channel August 30. Project Runway, which moves to Lifetime following a legal fight between producer Weinstein Company and its former cable home, Bravo, will have a 14-episode run in the Thursday 10 pm time slot.

Lifetime also announced that Drop Dead Diva, starring Brooke Elliott and Margaret Cho, will have its series premiere July 12. The third season of Army Wives premieres June 7.

Lawsuit Settled, Project Runway Set To Air On Lifetime Summer 2009

Project Runway will air Lifetime Television after show producer The Weinstein Company agreed to pay NBC Universal to move the series from its Bravo cable network. The show – in which fledgling fashion designers compete for money to launch their own clothing line – has been one of Bravo’s top-rated shows, averaging 4 million viewers. But in April last year, Weinstein Company said it was taking Project Runway to Lifetime in an agreement that Weinstein Company valued at about $200 million over five years.
