NBC kicks off the Fall 2009 season on Monday, September 14 with the highly anticipated primetime debut of The Jay Leno Show (10:00 PM/ET), followed by the premiere of the network’s marquee night of comedy on Thursday, September 17, as Saturday Night Live Weekend Update Thursday and new series Community join Parks and Recreation and Emmy winner The Office.
NBC’s dramas will premiere with a two-hour Heroes on Monday, September 21 (8:00 PM/ET), the compelling family drama Parenthood premieres on Wednesday, September 23 (8:00 PM/ET) leading into Law & Order: SVU (9:00 PM/ET). The new high-octane Trauma will premiere the following Monday, September 28 (9:00 PM/ET).

NBC announced today its 2009-2010 schedule featuring more original programming than ever before and a shared time-period strategy around NBC’s Olympics platform that, along with The Jay Leno Show (Mondays-Fridays 10:00-11:00 PM/ET), allows the network to broadcast all-new content year-round.
In addition, NBC issued renewals to Law and Order and Chuck as part of its strong slate of new and returning shows announced recently at the network’s highly successful Infront.

NBC renewed Dick Wolf’s veteran crime drama Law and Order for a 20th season, says the Hollywood Reporter. The order is believed to be for 16 episodes. Wolf had been open about his desire to tie Gunsmoke for the longest-running drama series on television. Once a staple at NBC, Law and Order, which spawned two successful spinoff series with Law & Order: SVU and Law & order: CI, has seen its ratings slide in the last couple seasons when it served as a midseason replacement. Its current cast includes Jeremy Sisto, Anthony Anderson, Sam Waterston, S. Epatha Merkerson, Alana De La Garza and Linus Roache.

NBC has announced its pickups for the 2009-2010 primetime season including four dramas, two comedies and three renewals. NBC officially picked up new dramas Trauma, Parenthood, Mercy and Day One (which will air as a limited-run event) and comedies Community and 100 Questions. Beyond the six new shows, NBC also gave a go-ahead to returning shows Southland, Heroes, Parks and Recreation and six new Thursday night Saturday Night Live Weekend Update episodes. Patricia Arquette’s Medium received a pickup Sunday morning, though its exact order was being worked out and expected to be in the 13-18 episode range.
