October 5th, 2007 | 1 Comment

The fate of CBS’ Jericho after its second season, tentatively scheduled to launch in January, may still be up in the air. But executive producer Carol Barbee has a contingency plan. She shot an alternate ending in case CBS decides to cancel the show for a second time.

“The ending that we planned was always meant to be a payoff for the seven-episode arc,. It won’t close off the whole story but it will show you where we would go in a third season.” If the show isn’t renewed, “It gives you a huge mythology so that you understand so much about what has happened,” she says.

Jericho Could Return Next Month

October 3rd, 2007 | 2 Comments

CBS is ready to bring Jericho back in the next month if their new fall lineup doesn’t score well in the ratings. The seven-episode second season has wrapped production and the network is eyeing the show as a potential replacement for one of several time periods that might open up in the coming weeks. If freshman efforts Kid Nation, Cane, Moonlight or the upcoming Viva Laughlin tank in the ratings, CBS is considering bringing the cult hit back early.

CBS’ other midseason drama, Swingtown, is not going to be ready until next year, though network also has The Amazing Race and game show Power of 10 available to fill one-hour slots. Last season Jericho aired Wednesdays at 8 p.m., the time period now held by Kid Nation. Though the slots occupied by Cane, Laughlin and Moonlight also have their pros and cons as potential slots for Jericho’s return.

Esai Morales has joined resurrected CBS series Jericho as a recurring, appearing in six of the seven episodes of the show ordered for midseason, says The Hollywood Reporter. On Jericho, from CBS Paramount Network TV, Morales will play Col. Hoffman, a career military officer and Iraq War veteran who has not heard from his wife since the day of the attacks. The post-apocalyptic drama Jericho, which chronicles the events following a series of nuclear explosions throughout the U.S., was canceled in May but picked up for a seven-episode second season in June after a massive campaign by the show’s fans.
