HBO Renews True Blood, Entourage And Hung

HBO announced the renewal of freshman comedy Hung, veteran comedy Entourage and hit vampire drama True Blood. Hung will get a second season, True Blood a third and Entourage a seventh. The new seasons will debut sometime next year, with True Blood firmly planned for summer 2010.

Next year HBO intends to air Big Love in January and roll out its highly anticipated World War II miniseries The Pacific in March. The war epic will eventually serve as lead-in for Treme, the New Orleans drama from David Simon. Flight of the Conchords will also likely return, with executives making a third season sound very probable.

Shelby Lynne will appear in an August episode, playing a country music singer whom Roxy adored while growing up, but now is “down and out,” Brigid Brannagh (Pamela) says “Roxy ends up befriending her – and then she sings a little ditty at the Hump Bar, which is pretty cool.”

Appearing in the episode immediately following is Gilmore Girls actress Kelly Bishop. She’ll be playing the wife of a late, great state senator, in town to attend a building-naming ceremony. Charged with entertaining the special guest, Claudia Joy and Denise come to realize the not-so-weeping widow’s secret – that she’s a cougar!

Anne Heche To Co-Star On HBO’s Hung

Anne Heche has been tapped to co-star on HBO’s new series Hung, from creators Dmitry Lipkin and Colette Burson and director Alexander Payne. The dark comedy, which was picked up for 10 episodes, centers on Ray (Thomas Jane), a well-endowed struggling high school basketball coach. Heche will play Ray’s ex-wife, who is remarried. She replaces Kristin Bauer, who played the role in the pilot. The scenes in the pilot featuring the character will be reshot. Production on Hung is slated to begin in mid-March, with the premiere eyed for June.
