Michael Chiklis is developing a new series at FX about a ponzi investment scheme similar to the true life events surrounding the Bernard Madoff scandel. The project, House of Cards, concerns a group committing an elaborate scam similar to the alleged Madoff fraud. Chiklis has been developing the project since February after he and his wife became victims of a Ponzi scheme themselves. “It really rocked our world,” Chiklis said. “Not so much from a monetary standpoint - it didn’t significantly hurt us - it was more the feeling of being betrayed and the ripple effect it caused.” House of Cards will likely center on the leader of investment scheme, with Chiklis planning to executive produce, but not star. FX expects to attach a showrunner to the project shortly. At first the concept might seem a bit limiting for a series - how many seasons can you stretch out the story of a scam? Chicklis countered that his case has been going on for five years and still isn’t entirely resolved.

FX is developing AR2, a drama from Prison Break creator/executive producer Paul Scheuring and The West Wing director/executive producer Thomas Schlamme about a group of Midwestern youths who spark a second American Revolution. Scheuring calls the project Les Miserables’ in modern America. It is set in Michigan, home of the top U.S. automakers, where “corporations undermine the common man and the government is not interested in helping (the common man),” Scheuring said. Scheuring, who had been tinkering with the idea for a while, took it to Schlamme, an American history buff. “It is an analysis of what is a patriot,” Schlamme said of the project.
AR2 will explore how the revolting college students - as well as the military and the law enforcement officers who oppose them - perceive patriotism. “It looks into what happens on both sides of the conflict and how that affects the personal lives of all involved,” Scheuring said. AR2 carries a different message than Schlamme’s previously politically themed drama, NBC’s The West Wing. “West Wing in some ways was wish fulfillment, and it looks like to a degree it has become a reality,” Schlamme said, referring to the election of Barack Obama. “This one is a cautionary tale, that this is a journey we’re on and we have to constantly be aware so it doesn’t happen.”
