Fox has announced that hit sci-fi series Fringe will be coming back for a full 22-episode second season. The show, which wraps its first season on May 12, regularly wins its Tuesday night slot among top demographics and rates as this season’s No. 1 new show with adults 18-49. Fringe is the story of FBI agent Olivia Dunham’s entanglement with the mysterious Pattern and the mad genius father-son team of Walter and Peter Bishop.

J.J. Abrams has signed Leonard Nimoy to join the cast of Fringe. The 78-year-old Star Trek icon will play William Bell, Walter Bishop’s former lab partner-turned-millionaire founder of Massive Dynamic. The character is set to debut in next month’s season finale and then return in the fall for several episodes.
