The nominations in the major category were announced early Thursday morning by Parsons and Chandra Wilson of ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy who were joined by the chairman of the Academy of TV Arts and Sciences John Shaffner.

Fox hit Family Guy became the first animated series in nearly 50 years, and the second ever, to land a best comedy series nomination, following The Flintstones in 1961.

Seven half-hours made it in to the best comedy series category, with two more first-timers, HBO’s offbeat The Flight of the Conchords, CBS’ often overlooked How I Met Your Mother and Showtime’s veteran Weeds. Fox Announces 2009 Fall Lineup

May 18th, 2009 | 4 Comments

Fox unveiled its new schedule Monday highlighted by summer reality hit So You Think You Can Dance jumping into the fall and J.J. Abrams’ Fringe challenging TV’s biggest shows on Thursday night. So You Think You Can Dance will air on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, just as American Idol does during the spring. Fox will use the show’s Wednesday results show to lead into its musical dramedy Glee. Fringe will move from Tuesdays this season to Thursdays at 9 pm, going against ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy, NBC’s The Office and CBS’ CSI.

The network’s top-rated scripted show House will remain on Mondays at 8 pm, followed by the second season of Lie to Me. The decision restores a strong lead in to Lie To Me, which saw its ratings drop following a shift to 8 pm on Wednesdays earlier this year. Dollhouse returns on Fridays, but with a modest lead in from new comedy Brothers and Til Death that seem unlikely to reverse its ratings struggles. The Cleveland Show will go into 8:30 pm Sunday nights. Wanda Sykes new talk show is planned for 11 pm Saturday nights.

Fox Orders A Second Season Of Family Guy Spin-off Cleveland

May 4th, 2009 | 0 Comments

Fox has ordered a second season of Cleveland, the upcoming spinoff from Family Guy, months before the series has even premiered. The new 13-episode pickup brings the total order for the show to 35 episodes.

The animated comedy, centered on the Cleveland Brown character from Family Guy, was originally targeted for a debut this spring. But in November, the network decided to push the launch to fall 2009 to give the creative team more time for development and production. At the same time, Fox showed its confidence in the project by picking up another nine episodes, bringing the total order to a full season of 22 episodes.

Fox Pushes The Cleveland Show Spin-off To Fall 2009

November 10th, 2008 | 0 Comments

Fox has pushed back the premiere date of Family Guy spin-off The Cleveland Show to the fall of next year says Variety. The show based on the Cleveland Brown character from Family Guy had been announced at Fox’s upfront as late spring premiere for this season.

Internally at the network there was little doubt that the animated series would need more time for development and production and was unlikely to bow this season. In announcing the new premiere date, Fox said it has picked up another nine episodes of The Cleveland Show, giving the show a full 22 episode season order for the 2009-10 season. Fox also said that political pundit and Huffington Post editor-in-chief Arianna Huffington has been added to the show’s voice cast. The Cleveland Show is co-created and executive produced by Seth MacFarlane, Rich Appel and Mike Henry.
