Goran Visnjic has decided not to renew his contract, and will most likely leave the show at the end of the season. Warner Brothers is attempting to broker a Noah Wyle-type deal with Visnjic that would bring Dr. Kovac back for five or six episodes next season – likely the show’s last. That would give producers enough time to script an appropriate ending to the Kovac/Abby love story, since Maura Tierney is most likely returning.

Forest Whitaker has signed on to replace Andre Braugher in a guest role on ER. Busy Philipps has also committed for at least four episodes of the NBC drama.
Whitaker will play a carpenter who comes to the emergency room with a seemingly simple cough, but while he waits, he suffers a stroke that leads to paralysis despite the efforts of Dr. Kovac. The first of his five episodes airs October 19. Philipps will play a Christian intern struggling to become a doctor.
Braugher pulled out because of a scheduling conflict. TV Guide reports that he passed on the ER guest spot for a role in the upcoming Fantanstic Four sequel.
Whitaker, who comes off a memorable season on FX’s cop drama The Shield, next stars as Ugandan tyrant Idi Amin in the feature The Last King of Scotland. Philipps’ credits include the series Love, Inc. and Dawson’s Creek.
ER returns for a 13th season September 21.

NBC is considering a move for its long-standing, high-rated drama ER. The network is looking to move ER to a Tuesday or Wednesday night timeslot and pairing the drama with one of the Law & Order show. Aaron Sorkin’s Studio 60 is the supposedly the frontrunner to replace ER on Thursdays.
I have watched ER since 2001 and I enjoy the show. It has become a part of my Thurdays. It will be a little weird watching ER on any other night than Thursday.

This season, John Stamos guest starred in two episodes of ER and was going to join ER full-time. He was forced to pull out after his show, Jake In Progress, was picked up for another season.
Stamos will reprise his role as Tony Gates, a flirtatious paramedic who also is a medical student and a Gulf War veteran. He first played the character in two episodes that aired during the November sweep. He is slated to make his debut as a full-time “ER” resident in the opening episode of the long-running medical drama’s upcoming 13th season – unless ABC picks up Jake In Progress for another season.
