CBS’ comedy series The New Adventures of Old Christine is assured of a 22-episode fifth-season order. ABC has closed a back-up deal with series producer Warner Brothers TV that guarantees a full-season order to the show if CBS doesn’t pick up the show. This is the second consecutive year ABC has made such a deal for the multicamera sitcom starring Julia Louis-Dreyfus. The network’s chief, Stephen McPherson, is considered a big fan of the show.

Burn Notice (USA)
Ben Shenkman as been cast for the third season as the man who can make Michael’s burn notice disappear forever. Shenkman will play the recurring role of Tom Strickler, a smooth-talking, gregarious freelance spy broker who offers to cancel Michael’s (Jeffrey Donovan) burn notice in exchange for an unspecified and potentially lethal job. Shenkman’s signed for a minimum of four episodes, the first of which will air midway through the show’s third season (debuting in June).

CBS has decided to air President Obama’s upcoming prime-time news conference forcing the network to reschedule several shows. The Rules of Engagement and New Adventures of Old Christine episodes originally scheduled for this Wednesday at 8:00 pm/ET has been moved to May 13.
Criminal Minds’ two-hour season final has been pushed back an hour to May 20, starting at 9 pm/ET, following the season finales of Old Christine and Gary Unmarried. The CSI: New York season finale, originally scheduled for Wednesday, May 20, will now air on Thursday, May 14, at 10 pm/ET, after the original CSI’s own finale.

After three episodes, CBS is moving Harper’s Island from Thursdays to Saturday nights starting May 2. According to insiders, the show got a reprieve from outright cancellation thanks to its live-plus-seven Nielsen ratings, which exhibited solid DVR interest in the show’s premiere. 48 Hours Mystery will take the show’s place. The network still plans to air all the remaining Harper’s Island episodes, with the finale set for July 11.

Michael Weston has been cast to guest star opposite Jeffrey Donovan in a season 3 episode. Weston will play Spencer, an unbalanced MIT grad who turns to Michael Weston (Donovan) when he uncovers a plot to sell the names of undercover spies. He thinks aliens are behind it.
