Ghost Whisperer creator John Gray has signed a new two-year deal with Touchstone Television to continue as executive producer and show runner on the CBS series, which stars Jennifer Love Hewitt, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Gray also will continue to write and direct episodes of the supernatural drama, from Touchstone TV and CBS Paramount Network TV, which is returning for a second season in the fall.
Gray told the trade paper that he plans to develop the show’s mythology next year. Gray wrote and directed the pilot and the two-part first-season finale. He also will write and direct the two-hour second-season opener, as well as two or three more episodes next season.

CBS has announced its 2006-2007 primetime schedule today, which includes four new shows, 18 returning series with six new series from last year’s class.

Catherine Bell and Gary Cole have joined the cast of the CBS pilot Company Town, a drama about government agents who live in the same neighborhood. Already on board for the pilot are Sherry Stringfield and Blair Underwood. You don’t have to wait for next fall to see Cole on television, he’ll reappear on some of the final episodes of The West Wing.

Mercedes Ruehl has joined the untitled Paul Reiser comedy pilot for CBS, about a man who takes over the family car dealership in Queens, NY. In 1991, Ruehl won an Academy award for her supporting role in The Fisher King. Ruehl joins castmates Bobby Cannavale and Hector Elizondo.

Things just don’t add up for Charlie when he learns that a psychic is helping investigate a triple homicide in which the bodies of illegal-immigrant women are found in a wilderness area owned by the U.S. government. Even though the psychic led police to the crime scene, Charlie believes the man is a fraud and sets out to prove it.

Still Standing and Yes, Dear won’t return for another season. The cancelation of Yes, Dear comes as no surprise, as CBS only ordered half a season and star Anthony Clark recently announced that he’ll be the new host of the next edition of NBC’s Last Comic Standing. It lasted six seasons and is already in syndication.
