Raquel Welch has come aboard CBS’ comedy pilot The Captain, which revolves around the characters who live in an old Hollywood building. Welch will play a former TV star and bombshell. Fran Kranz was previously cast as an acclaimed young filmmaker struggling with writer’s block, while Jeffrey Tambor signed on as a retired TV writer.
Jeffrey Tambor has joined CBS’ comedy pilot The Captain, which stars Fran Kranz as a young writer who moves into a historic Hollywood apartment building. Tambor will play a retired TV writer who lives in the building. His recent credits include the short-lived NBC sitcom Twenty Good Years.
Marisa Tomei will play the title role in CBS’ comedy pilot The Rich Inner Life of Penelope Cloud. The Oscar winner will play a brilliant, opinionated writer struggling to deliver the follow-up to her acclaimed first novel. She has an epiphany and tries to recapture her youthful optimism.
Amber Tamblyn is set to star in the CBS pilot Babylon Fields, an apocalyptic comedic drama about the undead trying to resume their former lives. Tamblyn will play a young woman who, after being abused by her father, teamed with her mom to kill him only to see him come back. Tamblyn rose to fame in CBS’ short-lived spiritual drama Joan of Arcadia.
Freddie Prinze Jr. will star in CBS’ comedy pilot Atlanta, playing a charming ad executive who falls for a woman at a funeral. The actor most recently starred last season on ABC’s comedy Freddie. His credits include the features Scooby Doo and I Know What You Did Last Summer.
The O.C. star Melinda Clarke is set to do CBS’ drama pilot The Man. The project stars rapper LL Cool J as an undercover cop who must take care of a boy orphaned after one of his drug busts. Clarke will play a tough, sexy policewoman who has worked with him over the years. She joins The Nine co-star Jessica Collins, who also was recently cast in the project. For four seasons, Clarke played Julie Cooper on the Fox teen soap The O.C. She also did a memorable multiepisode arc as Lady Heather on CBS’ CSI: Crime Scene Investigation.
