Breaking Bad (AMC)
David Costabile (Damages) is joining the AMC drama when the third season premieres in March 2010. He will be playing Walt’s (Bryan Cranston) new assistant, Gale. he is described as an eager student and a brilliant chemist, more interested in the magic of chemistry than getting rich. Costabile is signed for a minimum of four episodes.

AMC Renews Mad Men For A Fourth Season

AMC has renewed Mad Men for a fourth season. The pickup comes on the heels of the show’s third season premiere, which drew a record 4.5 million viewers Aug. 16 as well as critical praise. Creator Matthew Weiner, who garnered four of the five drama series writing nominations, is already on board for a fourth season as part of his wide-ranging deal with AMC and Mad Men producer Lionsgate, inked early this year.

The August 16 premiere of Mad Men drew 4.5 million viewers, shortly after the show received 16 Emmy nominations (including three acting and four writing noms) for its second season. The series won 2008 Emmy drama honors for its freshman year. Set in 1960s New York, the drama follows the lives of the ruthlessly competitive men and women of Madison Avenue advertising.

AMC Gets Rights To The Walking Dead, Darabont Attached

AMC has acquired the rights to Robert Kirkman’s popular comic book The Walking Dead for a potential series. Frank Darabont is on board to write, direct and executive produce the project, with Gale Anne Hurd of Valhalla Pictures and David Alpert of Circle of Confusion also executive producing.

Walking Dead has been a hotly sought-after property since it was published in 2003 by Image Comics. Darabont originally developed the project several years ago under his deal at NBC. It landed at AMC after a bidding war.

AMC Picks Up Rubicon For 12 Episode Season

AMC has picked up the political thriller Rubicon, starring James Badge Dale. The show, from writer Jason Horwitch and Warner Horizon, has received a 12-episode order. Directed by Allen Coulter, the project revolves around a secret society that pulls the strings on the world political stage. It centers on Will Travers (Dale), a brilliant analyst at a national think tank who discovers that his employers are not who they seem to be.

Jared Harris is joining AMC’s drama for its upcoming third season in a major recurring role. In a 10-episode arc on the acclaimed period drama Mad Men, set at the 1960s-era Sterling Cooper Advertising Agency, Harris will play Lane Pryce, the agency’s financial officer.

AMC Renews Breaking Bad For Third Season

Four episodes into the second season of Breaking Bad, AMC has picked up Vince Gilligan’s drama for a third season. Following a well-received first season that earned the series a Peabody Award and an Emmy for star Bryan Cranston, the second season has garnered even more critical acclaim and commercial success. The second-season opener of the Sony TV-produced series drew 1.7 million viewers, up 21% from the first-season premiere.
