Lucy Hale (Privileged) has signed on for a guest role. She will play a famous pop star that turns up dead. Hale’s episode is scheduled to air in January 2010.

A&E Greenlights Sugarloaf

A&E has greenlighted Sugarloaf, an hour-long pilot starring Matt Passmore. Sugarloaf, from Fox TV Studios, centers on Jim Longworth (Passmore), an ex-Chicago cop who gets kicked off the force after being shot by his ex-captain, who wrongfully accused him in having an affair with his wife. After receiving a payout, Longworth, an observant detective with a sly sense of humor, moves to a small Florida town and joins the state police. Clifton Campbell wrote Sugarloaf and is executive producing the pilot with Gary Randall. Peter O’Fallon is directing.

A&E Passes On A Third Season Of The Cleaner

A&E has decided not to renew the drama series The Cleaner for a third season says the Hollywood Reporter. The show’s 13-episode second season concluded earlier this month. The Cleaner, starring Bratt as a real-life extreme interventionist, marked A&E’s first scripted series in more than six years when it debuted in July 2008.

A&E Buys Lifetime

Disney/ABC, Hearst and NBC Universal announced Thursday an agreement for A&E to acquire Lifetime Entertainment Services. The confirmation of the long-rumored purchase puts Abbe Raven, president and CEO of A&E, in charge of the combined company following the closing of the deal, which is expected to occur this year. Lifetime president and CEO Andrea Wong will continue to head Lifetime and report to Raven.

A&E Moving Forward With Jackson Brothers Reality Show

A&E will produce a new reality series with the Jackson brothers in the wake of Michael Jackson’s death. The series’ working title is Jackson Family Dynasty. A&E’s original one-hour documentary, which was shot before the Michael Jackson died, will serve as the show’s first episode. A&E plans to launch the series this year. The issue has been trying to find a time that seems appropriate given all the ongoing drama surrounding Jackson’s death.

A&E Officially Cancels The Beast

A&E announced that The Beaste will not be picked up for A second season. The police drama, which premiered in January, starred Patrick Swayze as Charles Barker, a rogue undercover FBI agent teamed up with rookie Ellis Dove (Travis Fimmel). The series was filmed on location in Chicago.

Reviews for the series were mixed and its audience averaged 1.3 million viewers through the 13 episodes, which concluded their run in April. But Swayze was unstinting in a rough-and-tumble performance that he maintained while battling pancreatic cancer throughout. His illness had no discernible effect on his gritty portrayal.
