ABC Family announced its summer primetime schedule showcasing returning hits including The Secret Life of the American Teenager, Lincoln Heights and Greek, while revealing the details on three new shows.
First of the new shows to premiere will be Make It or Break It, a scripted drama set in the world of competitive gymnastics. Set to premiere June 22 at 9 pm, the hourlong show stars Chelsea Hobbs stars as a newcomer to the competitive circuit. 10 Things I Hate About You, premiering July 7 at 8pm, is a high school-set half-hour written and executive produced by Carter Covington and starring Lindsay Shaw and Meaghan Jette Martin. Gil Junger, the director of the 1999 feature film of the same name, directed the pilot.

Big D (CBS)
Deanne Dunagan, Missy Pyle and Chris Parnell have been cast in comedy Big D. The show revolves around a New York couple that moves to the husband’s hometown of Dallas, where his Southern belle mother (Dunagan) makes life complicated for his East Coast wife. Pyle will play the husband’s sister, who is prone to emotional displays. Parnell in negotiations to play her husband, a preacher.

ABC Family has acquired the final season of Gilmore Girls. The network landed the seventh season in a deal with Warner Brothers Domestic TV Distribution and now has rights to all 153 episodes of the series. The final season is set to be rebroadcast on ABC Family in June. Gilmore Girls, which launched in 2000 and ran until May 2007, aired on the WB and CW. Many critics championed the show but it never received an Emmy nomination. The series, created by Amy Sherman-Palladino and exec produced by David Rosenthal, starred Lauren Graham and Alexis Bledel.

ABC Family has renewed The Secret Life of the American Teenager for a second season. The series by Brenda Hampton has been given an order for 24 episodes, one more than the 23 episodes that comprised the show’s two-part first season. The show’s sophomore season premiere is tentatively slated for the summer. The show, which launched last summer and will wrap the second portion of its first season March 23, is the highest-rated original series in ABC Family’s history and ranks as the top cable series in the Monday 8 pm hour and the top series on any network in females 12-34.

ABC Family renewed college dramedy Greek for a third season and family drama Lincoln Heights for a fourth season with 10-episode pickups while canceling sci-fi mystery Kyle XY after three seasons.
Following the success of The Secret Life of the American Teenager, the network picked up three new female-oriented series, comedies Ruby and the Rockits and 10 Things I Hate About You and drama Perfect 10. All three received 10-episode orders. The network still hasn’t decided on the renewal of The Secret Life of the American Teenager, the order size still being determined.
