SciFi Channel Announces 2009 Summer Premieres
April 24th, 2009 | 1 Comment | Email | Share | TweetSciFi announced their 2009 Summer lineup which includes the return of Eureka and Ghost Hunters International. The channel previously announced the July 7 premiere of its new series Warehouse 13, which will debut with a two-hour premiere starting at 9 pm. The second half of Eureka’s third season will return on July 10. The show will move to Fridays at 9 pm ET/PT from its previous Tuesday timeslot.
Eureka returns with 10 new episodes, picking up where it left off, with Jack Carter (Colin Ferguson) being removed from his job as Eureka’s sheriff and Allison announcing that she is expecting her recently deceased husband’s baby. Carter is also confronted by some challenging decisions on the home front where his daughter Zoe is concerned and encounters a new love interest with the arrival of Dr. Tess Fontana (guest star Jaime Ray Newman), who will supervise the re-opening of Global Dynamics’ infamous “Section 5.”
Ghosts Hunters International returns July 8 and will air Wednesdays at 9 p.m. This summer the team travels to Austria, Ireland, Italy, Chile, Argentina and the Czech Republic in pursuit of the truth behind bizarre supernatural claims. The first six episodes of season two will air this summer, with additional episodes continuing in 2010. Ghost Hunters returns August 19 and will air Wednesdays at 9 pm.
SciFi also announced a slate of summer movies, starring Jason Gedrick, James Marsters and Peta Wilson.
Malibu Shark Attack, starring Peta Wilson. An underwater earthquake generates a tsunami that strikes Malibu and brings a hunting pack of prehistoric-looking goblin sharks to the surface. Although the beach is evacuated before the big wave strikes, a group of lifeguards and a crew of construction workers are stranded in the high water and have to fight the sharks to get to dry land.
High Plains Invaders, starring James Marsters. In the early 20th century, a small western mining town is invaded by giant insectoid alien creatures whose only mission is to mine uranium to fuel their spaceship, but they’ll kill anyone or anything that gets in their way. After they devastate the town, it’s up to a retired outlaw to lead a small group of survivors in fighting the “bugs.”
Hellhounds, directed by Rick Schroeder. After his bride is poisoned at their wedding, a young Greek warrior risks a journey to Hades to rescue her from the god of the underworld and bring her back to life. What he doesn’t know is that the best friend who accompanies him is the man who killed her in a jealous rage
Sand Serpents, starring Jason Gedrick. At an isolated Taliban outpost in Afghanistan, a small platoon of U.S. soldiers faces a danger far greater than fanatical rebels: giant wormlike creatures that come up through the sand and devour everything in their path. Their inexperienced lieutenant has to lead them across the treacherous desert to a rendezvous point where an army helicopter will pick them up, but not all of them are going to make it.

When the hell did a season start to consist of 10 episodes? I can’t believe that 10 is the number of Eureka episodes ordered. No wonder shows fail. There isn’t enough time for anyone to get interested in the show. Not only is 10 half of what might pass for a season, sci-fi will find some way to preempt most of those. I am so glad this summer has been good at the theatre for sci-fi fans as this channel syfy (sci-fi) is really starting to reek like a boat full of dead fish. If Stargate Universe Bombs then they might as well just shut this maker of B (and thats being generous) movies down. Really, I just don’t get it. Even “V” is on another network. Sci-fi has had years to pick up the rights to old shows like “Time Tunnel”, “Lost in Space”, etc. and put a new look to them. Instead we only got 1 good show which was BSG and coming up is Caprica which if you’ve seen it might seem like dejavu as it’s almost just like an episode of “The Outer Limits”. I just could not believe this piece of junk cheap production is supposed to pass for how cylons were created. Somebody doing the writing there better start having a joint before they sit down to create. At least we have a few Torchwood’s and Dr. Who’s coming from the brits on BBCA very soon. Unfortunately they have also cut the number in the series down to almost nothing this year. And tell me again why no one is watching TV?
