Reaper Escaping From Cancellation Hell

May 14th, 2009 | 14 Comments | Email | Share | Tweet

ABC Studios is in talks with CW affiliate stations about continuing Reaper as a syndicated series for Sunday night. The low-rated show has been assumed canceled at the CW. But most stations are said to love the series starring Brett Harrison as the Devil’s bounty hunter. So when the network recently decided to give Sunday night back to its affiliates, they started preliminary conversations with ABC Studios about possibly continuing the show with original episodes. ABC Studios also is exploring a possible afterlife for the series on cable.

While Reaper creators/executive producers Michele Fazekas and Tara Butters have moved on, recently inking an overall deal with 20th TV, they said that they would continue with Reaper if the show continued. Tyler Labine, the actor who plays Herrison’s sidekick Sock, is set to star in the newly picked up Fox comedy series Sons of Tucson. While Reaper is in first position to Tucson, there are conflicting reports on whether Labine would be contractually obligated to Reaper if it changes formats from a network to a syndicated show.

Reaper Fans! Write your CW affiliate and say there’s a fanbase in your area and it would be a ratings boost for them on Sunday nights! Look up your CW affiliate here: http://www.cwtv.com/stations. Also write to ABC Studios: http://abc.go.com/site/contactus.html?lid=ABCCOMGlobalFooter&lpos=CONTACT — encouraging them to keep promoting the syndication of Reaper! International viewers, write your affiliates/networks too. Draft emails and other ideas at http://community.livejournal.com/reaperdmv/44208.html. Come on, folks! This is our chance!

If you’re thinking that Tyler’s new show and Michele/Tara’s new contract at Fox mean the show isn’t coming back: Tyler says that Reaper has contractural priority, and Tara told us that she and Michele would still be consultants if Reaper gets a third season. So, write!

Please continue with Reaper, whatever the station (for example ABC, TNT, etc), it’s a good counterpart to Supernatural, which I also watch. I’m waiting to see what other vessels they come up with.

Can’t believe they cancelled such an awsome series with an story lines still to go and sam left in reaper limbo,
but that what you expect from network douches who wouldn’t know a great show if it came into there office and smacked them in the face.
need a site to go to to SAVE REAPER or at least let us see a little resolution, and if not by to Sam, sock and Ben, gonna miss you guys.

Please, Reaper cannot be canceled! It’s an amazing show. I’ve been a huge fan since the pilot episode. It’s uniqueness and humor-filled drama make it an amazing concoction. So whatever it is, REAPER MUST CONTINUE!

i watch this show in england and it would be a travesty if it was cancelled – there isn’t enough genuine quality programming on tv anyway so they can’t afford to cancel this

Over here in Germany, I´m not missing one single show of REAPER, and it actually would be a shame, if it was cancelled, `cause it´s a real good show with new ideas and tonza good laughs.
Sometimes I wonder why other much less well-thought shows are still broadcast, especially when they´re without any storyline, sense and fine humour at all…but who wonders ? That´s already happened before to other good shows in the past…

We live in a different time,…but REAPER,…we don´t let you go off just like that ;)…

This just goes to show the CW execs are on crack. Look at the ratings they were getting from WWE Smackdown! I was not a viewer of Smackdown but it was obvious the show was bringing in ratings, but instead the CW execs wanted to lose the WWE show so tey could try giving the airtime to moe of their typical teen angst drama bull crap! Unfortunately, Reaper has suffered the same fate. It’s a damn shame the CW is more interested in airing emo fueled teen over dramatic dramas instead of airing shows that people actually WATCH!!! When will they learn that the days of broadcasting to heart broken teen age girls is over???? I’m sick of the CW! They ruined Smallville, and they’ll eventually ruin Supernatural as well. Oh boy, they replaced Reaper with a show about emo teenage vampires… big shocker there.

Wake up!! We have dozens of channels in the UK and they show a constant stream of turgid rubbish…. Reaper was funny and chock full of charisma, one of the only things worth watching. I have no idea what sells stuff in the US but surely one production company can sort themselves out long enough to give a great show a reprieve. Who do I phone?

  10. Euan says:

reaper was getting better ratings than 90210 and its still going wtf????

  11. Jimbob says:

I’m from England and I can’t believe last night’s show will be the last. Please American network bosses, do something smart for once and renew this show, even if the ratings are low over there I’m sure it has quite a following over the world.

I want to know what happens now Andi has lost her soul to the Devil as well as Sam, it can’t end there! P.S. SHE IS HOT!!!

  12. nikki says:

I want to know whats gonna happen next….
