Premiering tonight on TV are the season premieres of Mercy, Cougar Town, Eastwick, CSI: NY, Modern Family, Criminal Minds, Law and Order: SVU, Garry Unmmared and The New Adventures of Old Christine.
Mercy – 8:00 PM/ET on NBC
The professional and personal ups and downs of three nurses at a hospital in gritty Jersey City, N.J., are charted in this medical drama. First up: An adept nurse (Taylor Schilling) lands work at Mercy Hospital after a tour of duty in Iraq, but her love life grows complicated because of her splintering marriage and the arrival of a handsome new doctor. Meanwhile, a naive rookie (Michelle Trachtenberg) tries to learn the nursing ropes.
The New Adventures of Old Christine – 8:00 PM/ET on CBS
The fifth season begins with Christine and Matthew flying to the Bahamas to help the deported Barb obtain an illegal visa so she can return to the U.S.
Gary Unmarried – 8:30 PM/ET on CBS
In the Season 2 opener, Gary tries to inspire his lackadaisical son Tom by pursuing a career in sportscasting. A call to an old buddy at a radio station results in a job offer, but Gary is surprised when he learns what they actually hired him to do. Meanwhile, Mitch takes Louise dancing.
Criminal Minds – 9:00 PM/ET on CBS
In the fifth-season opener, Hotchner vanishes while the team is profiling a killer who’s targeting an emergency-room doctor. C. Thomas Howell.
Law and Order: Special Victims Unit – 9:00 PM/ET on NBC
In the 11th-season opener, Off. Nate Kendall (Wentworth Miller) helps a rape victim, then reluctantly assists Benson and Stabler in the search for a serial rapist after Executive ADA Sonya Paxton (Christine Lahti) links the crime to other cases.
Modern Family – 9:00 PM/ET on ABC
In the premiere of this mockumentary-style sitcom chronicling the unusual kinship of the extended Pritchett clan, patriarch Jay (Ed O’Neill) adjusts to his preteen stepson’s views on romance, while his adult son, Mitchell, searches for a way to tell his relatives about his adopted baby from Vietnam with his partner, Cameron.
Cougar Town – 9:30 PM/ET on ABC
In the series opener, a recently divorced, fortysomething mother (Courteney Cox) of a teenage son is reluctant to reenter a dating pool that happens to be full of younger men, despite the coaxing of a younger coworker (Busy Philipps) and seemingly endless nights of sleeping alone.
CSI: NY – 8:00 PM/ET on CBS
The sixth season begins with Mac’s team recovering from a hail of machine-gun fire aimed at them while they were at a local bar remembering one of their fallen members. One person’s life is significantly changed by the event, and the CSIs become determined to find the shooter.
Eastwick – 8:00 PM/ET on ABC
In the series opener, three New England women (Rebecca Romijn, Lindsay Price, Jaime Ray Newman) make a wish for their lives to change. The mysterious Darryl Van Horne (Paul Gross) then arrives in town and helps them discover their untapped powers. Based on John Updike’s novel and the 1987 film The Witches of Eastwick.
