March 27th, 2009 | 16 Comments | Email | Share | TweetFox announced the return of So You Think You Can Dance, another season of Hell’s Kitchen and a new scripted psych ward drama called Mental for this summer. The lineup launches in late May. Fox is also rolling out Don’t Forget the Lyrics and Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader.
So You Think You Can Dance has a two-night four-hour premiere starting Thursday, May 21 and Wednesday, May 27. Once auditions conclude, two-hour weekly performance shows will air Wednesdays at 8 pm with one-hour results shows on Thursdays at 9 pm. Hell’s Kitchen is airing back-to-back installments this year, and will return with a two-hour debut on Tuesday, July 21 at 8 pm Mental will air Fridays at 9 pm, debuting May 22.
Don’t Forget the Lyrics will serve as Mental’s lead-in at 8 pm starting the same day, and will be swapped with Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader starting July 3. Also, Saturday night staples COPS and America’s Most Wanted will continue into the summer. There’s no new reality shows listed on the summer schedule, though that could change.
Mental: The series follows Dr. Jack Gallagher (Chris Vance), a dynamic, young psychiatrist who serves as Director of Mental Health Services at a Los Angeles hospital. At work he must reconcile his effective, yet highly unorthodox treatment methods with his conservative boss, hospital administrator Nora Skoff (Annabella Sciorra), a woman with whom he shares a romantic past. As Gallagher takes on new cases, he is confronted with patients battling unknown, misunderstood and often misdiagnosed conditions.

As an avid fan of Fox television, please, please, please consider bringing Fringe and Dollhouse
back for a second season. These two shows and their talented writers, actors, and staff deserve
a second year to continue to develop their programs.
A second season of Fringe was ordered and will air. There is no word yet on Dollhouse, it’s still up in the air. I hope they do the right thing and keep it going. Leave it to Fox to destroy a promising show (Firefly anyone?)
If they don’t bring back Sarah Connor Chronicles I will be soooooo pissed.
Kitty,
Actually, there was an article stating that Fox is definitely bringing back
Dollhouse. I understand why many of you are upset about the Sarah Connor
Chronicles, but don’t take it out on the shows that are returning.
I still wonder if the decision to not bring back the Sarah Connor Chronicles has
something to do with the new Terminator motion picture opening this
summer. Why not contact Fox and ask them WHY they cancelled SCC?
By the way, if you watched the entire season of Dollhouse, you will find that
it turned out to be a decent show. I wasn’t sure about it in the beginng,
but am glad that I stuck with it, and am looking forward to season 2, as well as
the second season of Fringe and Lie To Me. I’ve become an avid fan of Fox, and
rarely change the channel anymore.
I love these shows. I’ve been watching Fox ever since the Simpsons first aired and the old Kung-Fu movies were big. I love the network for TV shows not so much for News.

Bring Back Terminator SCC. It was the only reason I watched fox!
Ok, so “Mental” is like the psychiatric version of “House”… real original.
Please Please Please, don’t cancel Fringe, or Dollhouse! They are quite possibly the best two shows on television right now. It would just be sad to let them die in their infancy.
Dollhouse has developed into a captivating show with great potential to attract more viewers with the deep storylines that developed after episode 6. To cancel it would be a waste of both Fox’s money and viewer investment.
Bring back Terminator: TSCC. This is the best show Fox has ever had. I know most people watched this on DVR which is why the ratings sucked… But seriously! This show was the bomb!
It would be a shame to get rid of Terminator: TSCC it’s one of the shows I DVR from episode to episode, a show that many people wouldn’t get over being canceled!
I am also a big fan of TSCC. It’s one of my favorite shows. If it is canceled than they should also cancel all of the Fox’ management that approved the decision to let the show go.
I can’t believe FOX is cancelling all the shows that have actually made the station the most money in the past few years, with exception to 24. First Prison Break, then Terminator SCC, now I’m sure that the executives have completely lost their minds.Maybe someone should rethink the executives’ jobs @ FOX because now the station is going to completely suck balls except for 24!
Why,would you cancel Terminator? It is the best show on your network!
So there canceling TERMINATOR SARA CONNER CHRONICALS….
that really sucks, that was one of the best shows fox had….that and fringe.
terminating terminator scc is a big mistake!
I can see canceling Prison Break… it was no longer a “prison break”
But Terminator was rocky to begin with, although I think if they cancelled the series because of the new movie, that would probably be the worst reason to do that, after the movie, more people should have an interest in the series. At least that is what common sense would tell you.
But I am glad to hear Fringe and Dollhouse return. If only we could convince them to bring back Firefly in all its glory. Or maybe a story detailing how Shephard Book (spelling?) became a shephard in the first place.
if terminator scc doesnt come back ill have no need to watch fox except on sundays
