DirecTV has signed a four-year, $4 billion extension with the National Football League that will keep NFL Sunday Ticket game coverage on the satellite service through 2014. Announced Monday at the NFL owners meeting in Dana Point, the $1 billion-a-season pact replaces the current agreement, which pays the league $700 million a campaign and is set to expire in 2010. The renewal also includes a broadened level of service.

Currently, the NFL Sunday Ticket package of NFL games is only available to DirecTV subscribers paying an additional $99 a year. However, enhancements will allow non- DirecTV subscribers to access the package on the internet starting in 2012. Also in 2012, DirecTV’s Red Zone Channel, which jumps from game to game, delivering highlights and updates, will be available on other cable and satellite platforms.
