CBS will expand its successful Monday night sitcom lineup to Wednesdays. The New Adventures of Old Christine, which the network renewed at the last minute on Tuesday, will launch the block. Christine is followed by newcomer Project Gary, about a middle-class father who is played by Jay Mohr. The network will also add newcomer Worst Week, about an engaged couple, to its Monday night lineup, giving the show a lead-in from its top-rated comedy Two and a Half Men. Unlike the rest of the Monday night lineup,

The dramas also will emphasize stronger female characters, with the female-driven The Ex List replacing Moonlight on Fridays and drama The Unit adding a new female character. Ex-List stars Elizabeth Reaser as a woman told she’s going to get married in a year to a man she’s already met, then goes about contacting all her former boyfriends. The dramas also include the Jerry Bruckheimer-produced Eleventh Hour, about a science professor who helps solve crimes. Hour has been given CBS’ strongest lead-in, Bruckheimer’s own CSI, and will air Thursdays at 10 p.m. Ex List, Worst Week and Eleventh Hour are based on foreign formats, continuing a recent trend for networks to purchase pre-tested concepts.

Without a Trace will shift to Tuesdays at 10 p.m., a period that’s proved tricky for the network to fill in recent years. Another new procedural is The Mentalist, starring Simon Baker, about a deceptive celebrity psychic who puts his observational skills to better use working for law enforcement. The Mentalist takes over Tuesdays at 9 p.m., former home to The Unit, which is shifting to Sundays at 10 p.m. As expected, the serialized Harper’s Island, about a group of friends terrorized on an island off the Seattle coast, is set for midseason.

Absent from the fall schedule were any new unscripted shows, though veteran reality shows The Amazing Race and Survivor will return, with the latter airing in high definition for the first time. The network is currently shooting Mark Burnett’s game show Jingles, which could serve as a replacement.

Regarding the cancellation of fan favorite Moonlight, CBS entertainment president Nina Tassler. said the fall-off suffered by “Jericho” was a factor in the show’s decision. “We had a very passionate fan base, and that’s a good thing, but we had to make some tough calls,” she said. Tassler also nixed the idea of Moonlight getting an afterlife on CBS sister network the CW.

    Will Cane return in mid-season?

  2. Editor says:

No, Cane was canceled. Nestor Carbonell who played Frank Duque has already returned to his role on Lost.

  3. Rhonda says:

I officially hate CBS now. They went and cancelled 2 of the ONLY 3 shows I ever watched on the network and for what?!?!? the ability to keep Survivor around another year?!?! Survivor, a show that should have been cancelled so many years ago! The only reason shows like that stay around is because they cost the station much less money to make which leaves more money in their pockets! Shark and Moonlight were two of the BEST shows on any network and for some unknown reason the idiots that run the network would rather fill the airways with crap than good quality shows! Im sorry, but I just gave up watching any show on CBS, they have lost a viewer for life!

  4. SYLVIA BOUDREAUX says:

I THINK IT WAS REALLY FOOLISH TO GET RID OF MOONLIGHT I MEAN IT WON AN AWARD THAT MEANS IT IS A GOOD SHOW THERE OTHER SHOW ON THERE U NEED TO GET RID OF WHY WHEN WE START TO LIKE SHOWS U CANCEL THEM IF THATS IT WE SHOULD NOT WATCH ANYTHING BECAUSE WE GOING TO LOOSE IT AS SOON AS WE GET INTERESTED IN IT I THANK U FOR NOT GETTING RID OF GHOSTWHISPER OF COURSE EVERYTHING IF SUBJECT TO CHANGE IAM PISSED I REALLY LIKED MOONLIGHT OR IS THAT A WAY FOR U TO SELL DVDS HMMMMM

  5. Kay says:

This last season, CBS was my favorite network. It was good to see quality shows that kept me coming back. Cane was an excellent show that had a very good concept – even my older brother watched Cane. Moonlight was also an excellent show. It had a different concept that was very interesting. Why do the networks do this – cancel the shows that people really love. My only reason for watching CBS will be for CSI. Sorry but you have lost another fan…

  6. donnamarie kerner says:

why would cbs cancel moonlight. everytime they come back for a new season they push all these new shows on you and you feel so overwhelmed your head spins. finally they have some new shows worth watching and they cancel them for crap shows. cane was great and moonlight was great. why do you even bother to put new shows on and get people interested and then get rid of them when people love them.
don’t waste my time. i read the info about the new shows your putting on seem like crap. get rid of survior and put back on moonlight and cane

  7. JULIE STEVENSON says:

I REALLY LOVED CANE, SHARK AND MOONLIGHTING, CAN’T BELIEVE THEY ARE NOT COMING BACK, PLEASE THINK ABOUT RETURNING THEM

  8. kate says:

Will Dexter return to CBS again??

  9. Cathy says:

Is Dexter returning to CBS this Fall 2008?

  10. ruth says:

i am so disappointed that cane was cancelled! great show with a great cast. i’m so sick of reality tv. i live reality every day, would like to escape when i come home and turn on the tv

  11. Lucy says:

I am also disappointed that cane was cancelled I am also disappointed the moonlight has not be picked up for the fall after all it did when awards for best new drama. What is wrong with CBS? They have way to many reality show and stupid comidies and not enough shows for the older generation to watch.

  12. judy says:

I am disappointed to hear that Cane was cancelled for the 2008 season. It was a good show, much better than most of the other shows on television.

  13. Anna-Laura says:

Cane, Moonlight, and Shark were all cancelled? Well, I have simply nothing left to watch on CBS. The CSI franchise has run its course; CSI: New York sucked from Day One anyway. I don’t get it. Why cancel Cane and Moonlight? They really didn’t get a chance due to the writer’s strike. And Shark? James Woods is one of the greatest living actors. And why would network execs compare Jericho to Moonlight? Jericho was a very serious, difficult show to watch. Moonlight is a romance with a fresh twist on vampires. The show has two gorgeous leads. Moonlight was also a great complement to Ghost Whisperer. I just don’t get it! More and more, I find myself watching cable channels for something fresh, different, and consistent.

  14. Dana says:

Awesome. Moonlight was the first show I’ve been excited about in years. I know lots of people that felt the same way. What a great move on their part. Hooray.

It was worth staying around the house on Friday nights for GW AND Moonlight. Now, meh. Who cares.

  15. Catherine says:

I’m really sad that Dexter won’t be in their fall lineup. Don’t really want to pay for Showtime.

I guess that Dexter Season 3 will end up in my Blockbuster online rental queue when it comes out on DVD.

  16. deborah caporaso says:

CBS’s decision not to bring back Cane is a disappointmnet. It was truly one of the best television shows that CBS has to offer. I hope another network will be smart enough to pick up Cane next season……….

  17. MARY says:

NOW I AM REALLY MAD, NO CANE TO WATCH AND NO MOONLIGHT. REALLY!!! WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE AT CBS.
I HAVE WAITED ALL SUMMER LONG TO SEE THESE SHOWS AND NOW I FIND OUT THAT THEY AREN NOT COMING BACK. DO YOU NEED YOUR HEADS EXAMINED. I NEVER MISSED EITHER ONE OF THESE SHOWS. I THOUGHT THAT CANE COULD HAVE BEEN AS GOOD AS DALLAS OR DYNASTY AND YOU CANCEL IT THAT QUICKLY. PLEASE!!!
YANK SOME OTHER STUPID SHOW OFF LIKE SOME OF THE CSI’S. MAYBE IF YOU ONLY HAD ONE THE STORY LINES WOULD BE BETTER. DON’T GET ME WRONG I LOVED THEM WHEN THEY STARTED BUT NOW THEY ARE STUCK ON THAT MINITURE DOLL HOUSE STUFF. ONE WAS PLENTY. RETHINK WHAT YOU HAVE DONE.

  18. Chelsea says:

I JUST CAN’T UNDERSTAND WHY CBS CAN’T PUT MOONLIGHT ON CW. MAYBE IT IS JUST ME BUT IF A SHOW HAS A BIG FAN BASE ON GETS AN AWARD FOR BEST NEW SERIES THAT THEY WOULD WANT TO KEEP THE SHOW. CBS WOULD BE MAKING MONEY. SENSE IT IS ON ITUNES MANY PEOPLE ARE BUYING THE DIFFERENT EPISODES THEREFORE, CBS IS MAKING EVEN MORE OF A PROFIT ON THE SHOW. I TRULY BELIEVE THAT THEY SHOULD PUT IT ON CW AND SEE THE RATINGS OF POPULARITY. MOONLIGHT IS AN AMAZING SHOW AND SHOULD BE CONTINUED.

  19. Lori says:

Who all is coming back on NCIS? I heard that some of the main people are leaving.

  20. Heather Worthington-Chesser says:

I am so disappointed that 2 of the shows I really liked, Cane & Moonlight have been cancelled for the 2008-2009 season. They were the best in a long time! Please reconsider!

    Heather

  21. KIM says:

Is Dexter returning to CBS for season 2, or should I go purchase it on DVD?

  22. Deb says:

I dont feel they even gave Cane a chance. Then to pull it out from under us right in the middle of it was just not right. This show was up to the same par as Sopranos even though it was prime time network television. This very sad. I dont watch CBS only DVR it now.

  23. lorri says:

i use to love your network but you are getting rid of the good shows. shark, moonlight,i didn’t really like cane that much but it was better than survivor you say the ratings for moonlight were slightly low you think having them so high with the writers strike you would have given them a few points think about it a few goofy shows are ok like big bang but flooding the channel with them please

  24. Ashley says:

    MOONLIGHT IS AMAZING.
WHAT THE HECK ARE YOU THINKING?!?!?!?!?!

i am really disappointed in CBS for this.
maybe if you lose enough veiwers on friday nights, you’ll look back and realize that this wasn’t really a smart decision.

  25. Gladys Covert says:

You Cancelled Cane ?????? what is wrong with you people ????? That was an outstanding show. I’ve been on pins and needles waiting for it to start on the 2008 fall schedule, and now I read it was cancelled. That’s TOTALLY Ridiculous. You really need to re-evaluate how good this show is. I’m so upset with this news…………….Gladys

  26. nancy says:

If you would get rid of the reality shows; i.e. Survivor, Race, House, etc. and the canned comedy shows on Mondays; CBS would be the only channel I would watch. Thank god for Disc network!

  27. MaryBeth Cecil says:

I have been waiting for the fall lineup for Moonlight and went online to detemine when the new season will start, to find this show is cancelled. I loved the Friday line-up of Ghost Whisper and Moonlight. We never missed an episode and have watched re-runs on TIVO all summer. This really leaves me to wonder on what basis these decisions are made. You run 12 or 13 episodes and then pull the show? Yet how many years have endured “Survivor?” . I hope you get eough complaints to consider brining back “MOONLIGHT” for a 2nd season.

  28. Sherri Itte says:

PLEASE consider bringing “MOONLIGHT” back for 2nd season. It was the best show on television. I know many others that feel the same way as I. If you bring it back you won’t regret it.

  29. Lorraine says:

Well I wonder if I can cancel my cable and just get showtime so I can watch Dexter. CBS have very few shows that I will be watching, Mondays, tv off, Tuesday will watch maybe an hour, Wednesday another evening of TV, the rest of the week, guess I will be reading books cause the lineup doesn’t interest me in the least. Sure hope the other stations have a better lineup… goodbye cable hello books… no one censor them yet.

  30. dianne willimon says:

I WANT MOONLIGHT AND DEXTER BACK ON CBS THIS FALL. I CAN’T BELIEVE YOU HAVE CANCELED MY 2 FAVORITE SHOWS IN THE WORLD. THERE IS NOTHING ELSE FOR ME TO WATCH. IT’S A SHAME THAT YOU ALL TAKE AWAY THE ONLY ENTERTAINMENT THAT SOMEONE LIKE MYSELF HAS. PLEASE RE-CONSIDER.

  31. Bruce Ashford says:

I am really glade to see that The Unit will be back. I wish CBS would have kept it on Tuesday night after NCIS. But Sunday is better then Friday? Please keep the Servior show coming it is really entertaining. The shows that I love on CBS are NCIS , The UNIT, Servior,CSI.Please keep them all coming back……

  32. Heather says:

No Dexter? It’s one of the top 5 most entertaining programs on TV. What a pity!

  33. Rick Anderson says:

No CANE! Are you kidding me. I quess I will be watching the other networks. I have already stopped watching your morning show where there is so much bias for the Democratic Presidential Candidate. Maybe you should take a hard look at your programing.

  34. Karen says:

I cannot understand how inept your people are to not continue Moonlight & Dexter. Everyone I know were watching these two shows. Then with all the emails you’ve recieved, numerous blogs, buletin boards, etc… It boogles the mind that you could be so short sighted. You’re going to lose prime time from me and many others!

  35. killabeezy says:

y’all are lame if you don’t like cbs monday night lineup. Big Bang Theory, How I Met Your Mother, && Two & A Half Men are like, the funniest shows ever. Whoever doesn’t like them, SUCKS.

  36. Louise says:

I really was hoping that the 2nd season of Dexter would return to CBS this fall. I have read a few articals (”Parents against Dexter”) who only want it aired on the cable networks. If the show is being aired @ 10 p.m. on a Sunday night, like last year , what concerned parent would have their kids up that late on a school night anyway?!?

  37. Cassy says:

Come on. The biggest mistake CBS did was cancelling THE CLASS. At least give us a better ending.

Request them to bring it back.

  38. Teri says:

why on earth would they take away moonlight! its perfect! not to mention all the veiwers they could gain after the release of twilight!! i LOVED moonlight!!! PLEASE BRING IT BACK!!!!!!!

  39. brad says:

I come from an era, were the television show movement was much less, it is hard to keep up, and we lose show’s we love because of it. Bones, House, Mentalist, and many other excellent, and maybe costly shows can be degraded by the moves. For myself and the big star cost, are not as important as the concepts and story lines. Shows like Lost, Mentalist,Medium and so on didn’t rely on expensive actors. But I’m sure that once the contract is up, so is the lower wage. Example Friends, at the end Jennifer Aniston and friends were in the million a show category, Real, she can’t act to save her life. Nice person but these excellent comedies and drama’s are poisoned by greed. So, try to stay focused on good television, and less on named actors. Thanks

  40. DARLA says:

I agree with all of you CBS is really screwing themselves why get interested in any show these days? Pretty much if I enjoy a show it’s a one season show Everything I watch and enjoy seems to get cancelled so why bother. Does anyone think we’ll see Dexter again?

  41. John says:

Will Moonlight be brought back to life? Gods I hope so!

  42. Emilie says:

omg why did u take moonlight off air so many people liked it and so did i!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i miss that show soooooooooooo much and now…..now……its not coming back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:((((

  43. Emm says:

Would really like to see the Eleventh Hour return. husband and i enjoy it because one must actually think during it. What a concept! Also Rufus Sewell is one of our favorite actors. A shame that programming that is not constant murders and sadistic scenes or stupidity cannot make it as a favorite. I suppose this reveals the nature of most TV viewers who appear to be addicted to sexual, violent, mindless and dumb TV shows. Sad.

  44. Tammy says:

Still missing Moonlight, Cane & Dexter. Bring them back please
