Michael Ausiello tracked down Gilmore Girls’ creator Amy Sherman-Palladino at the Network Upfronts last week. He confronted her about the end of Gilmore Girls and the final four she wanted to end the series with. While not giving up those four works, Sherman-Palladino did drop a big piece of Gilmore news. She explained that she couldn’t reveal her version of the series’ ending because Gilmore Girls isn’t over yet. In the next year or two, she hopes to make a two-hour Gilmore Girls TV-movie that ties up all the loose ends that weren’t addressed in the series finale. Ausiello talked to Scott Patterson, Alexis Bledel and Lauren Graham about the news and all three were positive about wanting to participate in the movie.
The CW announced that the May 15 season finale of Gilmore Girls will indeed be the series finale. Warner Brothers recently made one final offer to Lauren Graham and Alexis Bledel that included sizeable salary increase for both in exchange for a shortened 13-episode season. That offer was rejected. The May 15 finale was meant to serve as either a series or season finale.
“Announcing the final season of ‘Gilmore Girls’ is truly a sad moment for everyone at The CW and Warner Brothers Television. This series helped define a network and created a fantastic, storybook world featuring some of television’s most memorable, lovable characters.
We thank Amy Sherman-Palladino, Dan Palladino, Dave Rosenthal, the amazing cast led by Lauren Graham and Alexis Bledel as well as the producers, writers and crew for giving us this delightful gem for the past seven years.
We would also like to thank the critics and ‘Gilmore’ fans for their passionate support and promise to give this series the send off it deserves.”

Michael Ausiello is reporting that although all indications were that Warner Brothers and the CW were nearing a deal to bring Gilmore Girls back for a shortened eighth season, sources close to the negotiations now say that talks are at a complete standstill. “It’s anybody’s guess what’s going to happen,” reports a Gilmore mole. “There’s no deal in place at this point, and there may never be. This is probably going to come down to the wire.” The holdup can be summed up in five words: Lauren Graham and Alexis Bledel. According to the insider, “very good” offers were made to both actresses, but it apparently wasn’t enough to coax signatures out of them. “Now it’s a game of chess,” whispers the spy. “It could go either way.” Further complicating matters is the fact that the CW’s upfront presentation - the unoffical deadline for a deal to be brokered - is scheduled for May 17. That’s two days after the show’s potential swan song airs. In other words, if negotiations literally go down to the wire, we won’t know if we’re watching the season or series finale.
Michael Ausiello is reporting that in this season’s penultimate episode of Gilmore Girls, airing May 8, Logan will get down on bended knee and propose to his Rory. Keep in mind this is the same episode that Rory and Logan are supposed to break up and go their seperate ways. Now is this a rewrite, or does Rory say no and move to Iowa? Could this be a sign of a rumored shortened 8th season because I think would be hard to do an eighth season with Rory in Iowa. How do you think it will end?

Michael Ausiellos is reporthing that the CW has pushed the show’s return back a week to April 17. As a result, the season - and possibly series - finale moves from May 8 to May 15. According to a CW insider, the net “wanted more original Gilmore episodes in May.” Looks like we’re stuck with Gilmore Girls reruns for another of couple weeks. Meanwhile, due to the surprise success of the Pussycat Dolls reruns, One Tree Hill won’t return with originals until May 2.
Michael Ausiello reports that show-runner Dave Rosenthal has landed CNN’s Christiane Amanpour for a cameo in the show’s May 8 season (and likely series) finale. Amanpour’s scene is still being written, so all that’s known at this point is that she will be playing herself. It was established early in the first season that young Rory Gilmore’s role model was CNN anchor Christiane Amanpour, and Rory will now meet Amanpour in the May 8 wrap-up. As far as it being the series final, Ausiello says that talks to bring the show back for an eighth season have stalled, and, according to several sources, there’s little hope for a turnaround.
While promoting her new film, Because I Said So, Lauren Graham talked to ComingSoon.net exclusively about the future of the seven-year series.
“I don’t know [if this will be the last season] because it has been expressed to me that they would like another season, but then there’s nothing that’s happened toward that. I’m not sure. I don’t know what would make my decision clearer,” Graham told us. “There’s so many elements and I’m not sure where to get started. I mean if I was 100% convinced that I would like to do another season I guess I could say that, but I don’t know if I feel that way. I think Alexis [Bledel] feels mixed as well.”
