Comedy Central has renewed Mind of Mencia and the animated series Lil’ Bush. The network has ordered 10 new episodes for the fourth season of Mind of Mencia, featuring comedian Carlos Mencia offering his point of view on various topics, and is targeting a spring premiere. Mencia averaged 1.5 million total viewers during its third season, ranking No. 1 among basic cable with men 18-24 in its time slot at 10-10:30 p.m. Sundays.

Lil’ Bush will be back for a second season in the spring with 10 new episodes. The show features the future president along with such pals as Lil’ Condi and Lil’ Cheney as they terrorize the White House and solve the world’s problems before bedtime. Lil’ Bush, which debuted June 13 to 1.5 million viewers, originally was made as a series of animated shorts for Amp’d Mobile before being picked up by Comedy Central.

Comedy Central Picks Up Lil Bush Cartoon

Comedy Central has ordered Lil’ Bush: Resident of the United States, a cartoon satire that re-imagines President Bush and key executives in his administration as elementary school misfits. The title character is surrounded by close pals like Lil’ Cheney, who grumbles unintelligibly, and Lil’ Condi, who pines for Lil’ Bush and does his homework for him. Bush is not without its risque moments. When Lil’ Bush’s school serves falafel instead of hot dogs for lunch in one episode, he and his pals torture the cafeteria employees with methods made famous during the Abu Ghraib prison scandal. Six episodes from writer-producer Donick Cary (The Simpsons) have been ordered to air on Comedy Central next year.

Bush got its start in September as six five-minute clips offered by Amp’d Mobile, a U.S.-based wireless service that packages video entertainment programming with cell phone service. Bush represents an unlikely reversal of the one-way flow of programming from television to other digital platforms, where networks and studios are attempting to extend franchises in search of new revenue. That said, many a programmer has cited the Internet and mobile arenas as potential breeding grounds for fare that could translate back to TV.

South Park Preview 04.05.06

Kyle loves watching the Family Guy. Cartman isn’t a big fan. A race to California will determine the fate of the animated series Family Guy.

It will be interesting to see how this turns out. When The Simpsons “mocked” Family Guy, both shows were on Fox, so licensing issues were probably worked out by the network. Either way it should be an entertaining episode.
