Capshaw A Regular, Knight Gone From Grey’s Anatomy

Grey’s Anatomy has officially promoted Jessica Capshaw to a series regular, reports Michael Ausiello. Capshaw joined Grey’s Anatomy last February as a recurring love interest for Sara Ramirez’s Callie. Her arrival came right after the controversial firing of Brooke Smith as Callie’s girlfriend Dr. Hahn.

Ausiello is also reporting that T.R. Knight has been released from his contract and will not be coming back this fall. Knight grew so fed up with his character’s lack of storyline that he asked if he could be released from his contract three years before his deal expired. Rhimes said that George’s relatively light storyline this year was the result of the normal “ebbs and flows” of ensemble television. But she did say that he was intentionally written lighter during the last half of the season so that viewers wouldn’t think it odd that he was absent from the season finale.

Reps for Knight and ABC declined to comment.
