ABC Renews Key Shows For 2009-2010 Season

The network renewed key series including Desperate Housewives, Grey’s Anatomy, Brothers and Sisters and Private Practice. ABC also renewed Lost, which had already been given a go-ahead and will now complete its final season next year.
In a show of confidence, Ugly Betty also got the go ahead for another season. Samantha Who still remains on the bubble, although insiders believe the show will ultimately get another season on air. The pickups make it season six for Desperate Housewives, Grey’s Anatomy and Lost. It’s the fourth season for Brothers and Sisters and Ugly Betty, coming close to qualifying both shows for off-network syndication. Private Practice is entering its third year.
Although it remains likely that this is the last season for Scrubs, there’s still talk of keeping the show going with some cast adjustments next year. Also, there remain fans inside ABC of Better Off Ted, which has earned strong reviews, even though its ratings haven’t shown it. And Surviving Surburbia hasn’t made any friends with critics, but if producer MRC offers to bring back the show at a low license fee, it might still find a way to return next season. Then there’s In the Motherhood, which is now off the air – likely for good.
ABC was said to be hopeful with The Unusuals, giving it a Tuesday night showcase this week in addition to its Wednesday home, but that didn’t get the ratings expected. With Cupid not making much noise, that gives Castle now the best shot of the three to return next season.
ABC also renewed several unscripted shows for 2009-2010 including Dancing with the Stars, The Bachelor, Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, America’s Funniest Home Videos, Wife Swap and Supernanny.
America’s Funniest Home Videos will hit its 20th season this year; The Bachelor is back this fall with its 14th season; Dancing with the Stars will return with its ninth season; Extreme Makeover: Home Edition is back for a seventh season; and Supernanny and Wife Swap are both back for their sixth year.
ABC’s official May upfronts presentation to advertisers is slated for May 19, in New York City.
Hopefully, Castle will return in the abc fall lineup. One of our most favorite shows of the season….
I’m am in total agreement with you. I love CASTLE it is my new favorite show!! It is cleaver and funny and interesting. I can’t wait to see what is going to happen. the writing is great. the chemistry is there. and it is just great to watch!!!

I think Castle is a great show,i cant wait for it to return. I love the the actors. I also cant wait to see what happens between castle and the women cop. ABC please bring back CASTLE. I dont know who decides what shows stay and what ones go,but it isnt real people. Because everyone i talk with loves Castle. And are getting sick and tired of good shows being cancelled. I use to love TV,but iam getting to the point,where if my TV breaks iam not going to get it fixed.Unless things change,people love comedy and romance,not everything has to be reality or violent. A REAL PERSON.
Would love to see Castle return. It is so much better than the tired old story lines of Desparate Housewives and Grey’s Anatomy. The chemistry is really there with all the actors.

I desperately hope they renew Castle. It is one of the few sharp, funny, intelligent shows on TV. Nathan Fillion is razor sharp and the entire cast is perfect. I DVR it and still watch it over and over. ABC: Keep Castle!

I’m a 63 year old grandma (although my 7 g’kids think I’m pretty hip). I agree that the Unusuals was one of the best “summer replacement” shows I’ve seen since we got a TV in 1958. The REALLY best, though, was “Castle”. Of the shows ABC’s going to renew for sure, I have never watched any of them. Please bring back “Castle” for sure, and I’d love to see a whole season of the Unusuals.
I believe ABC made a mistake in taking Life on Mars off, that was a unique, funny, serious show with superb acting!!! Wish they could do it again, PLEASE!!!!

I would love it if Castle got a second season, especially with the way season one ended. I want more!!! It is my favorite show! The chemistry, the wit, and the angle in which the characters approach the cases as well as their everyday lives never ceases to make me laugh and at the same time pulls my heartstrings. It’s brilliantly written and performed just as wonderfully. Castle is the fully packaged show that we have been waiting for from ABC.

Castle is a unique whitty blend of murder she wrote and nathan fallion……please renew this show and help Nathan break his curse of well written, well acted, wonderfully cast, unique shows that he has stared in (FIREFLY,DRIVEN) that are canceled before they can take off…..Show used to have at least two seasons to garner an audience before cable came along so why not go back to that….dont look for the instant hit (as they are rare) but let shows build a solid steady 8-12 share amd be happy (KYLE XY)….
I agree about Castle. Nathan Fillion is awesome. So adorable! And the scripts are really well-written. Not the same old cop show!

Besides Lost, Castle is the only other show I watch. I love every single cast member and their characters. And kudos to the person/people who choose the music for each episode–sets such an interesting tone. Please give us many more seasons!!!
Castle and the Unusuals were the only two shows that tuned me into ABC this Spring. ABC will be making a grave mistake if they do not renew Castle. The writing and the chemistry make it one of the best new shows on television.
ABC PLEASE, PLEASE renew CASTLE!!! I looked forward to Monday nights and staying up late, well after my kids and husband have gone to bed, to watch Castle. It’s a great show. I love all the actors, the chemistry between Fillion and Katic, the plots, everything about it. It would be a HUGE mistake if ABC did not pick it up for 2009/2010 season, IMO.

Castle is an AWESOME show and has been the first TV show to get my attention each week since Buffy and Charmed went off the air. (Firefly did too but that was poorly promoted and FOX has a thing for killing shows before they even have a chance.) Don’t be like FOX, ABC!!! Give this GREAT show a chance!!!!

Castle has the most interesting leading characters since Grissom was on CSI. The one liners are funny, witty, and fit the portrayal of Richard Castle well. The cases are interesting, Please renew!
I am just going to die if I don’t find out what happened to Becketts’ mom. I only watch 2 shows on ABC, lost and Castle. I heard lost is having their final season next year and I’m fine with that – But I am not fine if Castle doesn’t come back. I loved Nathan in Firefly and I love him in Castle. The whole set up and cast is genius. Our family records it every Monday!

Castle ROCKS! and The Unusuals is very good. I didn’t want to like it since it replaced Life on Mars, but, alas, I like it.

I love Castle! It is well-written, light-hearted mystery show. The chemistry between the actors is great. Love Nathan!! Please bring it back for a second season ABC, and don’t change the time slot. Give it a chance to grow an audience. I loved Men in Trees and that show’s time slot moved around so much no one knew when the show was on.
I don’t think Castle should get renewed, I’ve seen episodes and it was too much of a copycat wannabe of an even better show on another station, I personally don’t think it should be renewed… but thats just me.

I would probably go crazy if abc wouldn´t renew Castle, it´s the first show I´m really hooked to, I couldn´t wait for mondays to come!!! It´s an intelligent show with it´s whitty and brilliant written conversations between Beckett and Castle… Can´t wait to see season 2!!!
Please, Please bring Castle back. I enjoy this program so much. I only watch two shows on TV… DWTS and Castle… (lost 3 TV’s in a fire and decided to go back to reading) … I watch DWTS at my friends house Mon and Tues and Castle on my computer. Please, at least one more season and give it a chance.

i really like castle and the unusuals. they are both 2 of the best new shows on tv. i also wish they had not canceled life of mars, it was a great show and i miss seeing it, please bring it back.
I wish ya’ll would bring Castle back that is the one show I look foreward to seeing every week. That is the only show my mom lets me stay up to watch. I hate watching boring shows like Desperate Housewives. Please bring Castle back that show is so awesome I love watching it.

We were so upset when “Life on Mars” got cancelled ! The networks promote the new shows like crazy, we (the public) get hooked, then the show gets cancelled ! It seems that the ‘higher ups’ cater to the moronic masses and when something creative & smart with a brilliant cast comes along, the network doesn’t give it a chance to grow and bloom into a big hit ! I predict that the episodes of “Life on Mars” will get packaged up into a DVD that will become a cult classic ! As for “The Unusuals”, it was a slow starter ’til we got comfortable with the characters, then each episode just got better & better and we got hooked on that…and now it’s getting axed !!! C’mon guys, have some faith & trust in the shows you produce ! And ‘yes’, we like “Castle” too & are glad you’re giving SOMETHING a chance ! We still miss “Joan of Arcadia” and “Journeyman” !…both excellent shows !
Please bring back Castle. There is almost nothing on TV to watch anymore except reality shows and they are getting old. Castle and Cupid deserve a chance to make it. I like both but really enjoy Castle. KEEP IT ON!!
Bring back Life on Mars, it was a great series. That showed gave positive feedback it sjust that it was placed in the wrong timeslot. My whole family loves that show and wold liek to see it save. The ending can deffinitly be tured back around

I hope Castle is renewed. This is an outstanding show with excellent writers that create witty and well-thought out plots. It also has great actors! Please bring back Cupid – it was a very clever and fun show.
