Gretchen Mol Lands Life On Mars

Gretchen Mol has joined the cast of ABC’s Life on Mars adaptation, playing the lead female role of Annie Norris. When Jason O’Mara’s modern-day detective, Sam Tyler, is transported to 1973, Annie is a member of the Police Women’s Bureau, making do with menial tasks and combating the sexism of the times, despite being the smartest person in the squad room. Annie’s battle for equality on the force will one day pave the way for Sam’s contemporary love, Maya Daniels, to herself become a police officer. In the BBC’s original Life on Mars, Annie was played by Liz White.




Josh Lucas Cast In Possible Side Effects

Josh Lucas has been cast to star in Possible Side Effects, the Tim Robbins’ drama pilot for Showtime says The Hollywood Reporter. The project, which Robbins wrote and will direct, centers on the Hunts, a dysfunctional family running a pharmaceutical company. It examines the political, scientific and bureaucratic machinery that makes up the drug industry. Lucas will play Max Hunt, who tries to keep the business and the family together in the face of controversy.

The casting of Lucas comes almost a year after Showtime greenlighted the pilot. Robbins is executive producing with Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas and Daniel Thomas.


HBO Greenlights How To Make It In America

HBO has greenlighted How to Make It in America, a comedy pilot from Stephen Levinson’s Leverage and Mark Wahlberg’s Closest to the Hole. Penned by Ian Edelman, How to Make It revolves around three enterprising downtown twentysomethings who hustle their way through New York City determined to achieve the American dream.


Freddie Prinze Jr. Gets Creative With WWE

Freddie Prinze Jr. has taken on a behind-the-scene role on World Wrestling Entertainment’s creative team. The company said Wednesday that Prinze will contribute to WWE’s weekly TV and monthly pay-per-view programs. “Freddie Prinze Jr.’s passion, energy and creativity make him an excellent fit for WWE,” said chairman Vince McMahon.

Chris McCumber, executive vp marketing digital & brand strategy at USA Network, which airs WWE programming, added: “Bringing on board an experienced Hollywood writer, actor and producer like Freddie Prinze Jr. will only increase the level of entertainment to millions of viewers and passionate WWE fans every Monday on USA.”
