Diane Farr Leaving Numbers
Posted on March 26th, 2008 at 8:23 am

Michael Ausiello is reporting that Diane Farr will not renew her contract and will leave Numbersl later this season. Farr joined Numbers in 2005, replacing Sabrina Lloyd. Prior to that, she spent two seasons on FX’s Rescue Me. There’s no word on how her character, FBI agent Megan Reeves, will be written out, or in which of this season’s six remaining episodes she will last appear (Numbers returns April 4). Megan’s on-again/off-again romance with Peter MacNicol’s Larry is expected to heat up as the season winds down.

Producers, meanwhile, are already searching for Farr’s replacement. On Monday, Numbers began casting the role of Nikki Donati, a 27- to 35-year-old ex-LAPD officer who joins the FBI in search of a “bigger and badder” challenge. She’s described as a full-blown adrenaline junkie whose gritty street perspective makes her a great foil for her boss.

Posted on March 24th, 2008 at 9:39 pm

Fox has picked up a fourth season of its action-drama Prison Break. The network has ordered 22 episodes of the show, which will resume its run in the fall. Thirteen episodes of Prison Break aired this season. The show was one of several scripted programs interrupted by the WGA strike that will reset with a new production order. The most recent run averaged 8.2 million viewers and a 3.5 rating among adults 18-49. The production on next season will commence in May and relocate from Dallas to Los Angeles (where Season 4’s story line takes place). CBS Cancels Jericho, Again
Posted on March 24th, 2008 at 8:45 am

CBS has canceled Jericho, again. The low-rated post-Armageddon drama was briefly brought back from the dead by fan demand after the first season, but it looks like no amount of nuts will save the show for a third season. The network will air the season finale on Tuesday, one of two that was shot in the event either of a renewal or cancellation.

“The March 25th episode of Jericho will be the series finale,” CBS said in a statement. “Without question, there are passionate viewers watching this program; we simply wish there were more. We thank an engaged and spirited fan base for keeping the show alive this long, and an outstanding team of producers, cast and crew that went through creative hoops to deliver a compelling, high quality second season. We have no regrets bringing the show back for a second try. We listened to our viewers, gave the series an opportunity to grow, and the producers put a great story on the screen. We’re proud of everyone’s efforts.”

Eick Confirms NBC Has Canceled Bionic Woman
Posted on March 20th, 2008 at 9:26 am

David Eick, co-executive producer of NBC’s SF series Bionic Woman, confirmed to SCI FI Wire that the network has indeed canceled the show, though the network has not yet officially said as much. “I just felt that the process was so frustrating, and the conditions under which we were making that show never really came to fruition in such a way that I felt like we could make the show well,” Eick said in an interview at SCI FI Channel’s upfront presentation to advertisers in New York on March 18. “The actress [Michelle Ryan] we found was wonderful. Some of the writing was good.” But, he added: “We just didn’t ever bring it all together like we did with Battlestar. At a certain point, when it becomes that frustrating, I think you’re better off to say, ‘Let’s try again another time,’ and let it go.”

Sci Fi Channel Upfront, Caprica Picked Up For Pilot
Posted on March 18th, 2008 at 7:54 pm

Battlestar Galactica may be ending its run next year, but the show will live on with Caprica. At its upfront presentation Tuesday in New York, Sci Fi Channel announced that it has picked a two-hour back-door pilot for the prequel, which had been in development for two years. Caprica, which is set 50 years before the events in the departing Battlestar Galactica series, will begin production in the spring. As for Galactica, the series’ final-season premiere will debut online nine hours before it airs on TV.

Sci Fi also has given the go-ahead to True Believer, a two-hour back-door pilot created by Rosario Dawson and David Atchinson - who co-wrote the comic book series Occult Crimes Task Force - about a comic book enthusiast who hires a former superhero to teach him about crime fighting. It joins The Stranded, a two-hour pilot of a Sci Fi/Virgin Comics joint venture. The network also plans an Alice in Wonderland-based six-hour miniseries titled Alice, from RHI Entertainment. A two-hour comedy-drama pilot, Deputized, follows a man who fights crime around the galaxy after getting super powers.
