Jordana Brewster Cast As Mrs Smith For ABC
Posted on January 31st, 2007 at 9:16 am

Moviehole reports that Jordana Brewster (The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning, The Fast and the Furious) has been cast in ABC’s “Mr. & Mrs. Smith” pilot. She’ll take over the role made famous by Angelina Jolie in the feature, which co-starred Brad Pitt.

The site adds that the pilot picks up six months after the end of the film and follows our typical suburban married couple - who just happen to be undercover assassins on the side – as they struggle to keep the spark in their marriage going, even as they try to save the world. The project is being targeted for a fall 2007 premiere. Doug Liman and Simon Kinberg are reprising their roles as director and writer, respectively. Liman, Kinberg and Dave Bartis will executive produce. Filming is expected to start in March.

Creator Tim Kring Talks Heroes Future
Posted on January 31st, 2007 at 9:14 am

Tim Kring, creator of NBC’s hit SF series Heroes, told SCI FI Wire that the show’s first season will end in a cliffhanger that tees up season two, which was recently given a green light. Kring, speaking in an interview at the recent Television Critics Association winter press tour, added that the first season will resolve the current apocalyptic story arc, in which Hiro Nakamura (Masi Oka) foresees a nuclear detonation in New York.

“Yes, absolutely,” Kring said. “That will be resolved in the first season.” As for the cliffhanger? “It’s not necessarily a cliffhanger in terms of what has been set up so far storywise,” he added. “It’s more of a cliffhanger as to the welfare and well-being of several of our characters. … Obviously it plays into where we kick off at the [beginning] of season two.”

Famke Janssen has signed on to topline an NBC cop drama from House creator/executive producer David Shore, says The Hollywood Reporter. CBS Picks Up Two SciFi Pilots
Posted on January 29th, 2007 at 9:43 am

CBS has picked up two SF pilots: Babylon Fields, an hour-long zombie-themed comedy-drama, and Twilight, a drama about a vampire private eye who’s dealing with the fallout from being immortal, Variety reported. Gerald Cuesta and Michael Atkinson wrote the pilot for Babylon Fields and will serve as supervising producers. CBS described the pilot as a “sardonic, apocalyptic American comedy-drama where the dead are rising and, as a result, lives are regained, families restored and old wounds reopened.” Michael Cuesta, who directed the pilot for Showtime’s Dexter, will executive-produce and helm via 20th Century Fox Television. In Twilight, the central character contends with foes in the vampire world and a budding love for a mortal. Joel Silver is executive-producing via Warner Brothers TV. Trevor Munson (Lone Star State of Mind) and Ron Koslow (Beauty and the Beast) wrote the script and will executive-produce.

Victor Garber Joins Eli Stone On ABC
Posted on January 25th, 2007 at 9:31 am

Victor Garber (Alias) has been tapped to star opposite Jonny Lee Miller in ABC’s drama pilot Eli Stone, a high-concept legal drama about Eli Stone (Miller), a brilliant attorney at the top law firm in San Francisco who finds out he might be a prophet, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Eli is produced by Touchstone Television and the studio-based Berlanti Television. Garber will play the senior partner at the firm, the most respected attorney in town, who happens to be the father of Stone’s fiancee.

Casting for the role had been going on for several months, and ABC and Touchstone TV are said to have jumped at the opportunity to recruit Garber when he became available after the November cancellation of his Fox/Warner Brothers TV freshman drama Justice. For five seasons, Garber starred as Jack Bristow on ABC’s spy drama Alias, a role that earned him three Emmy nominations.

Hargitay And Meloni Staying With Law & Order SVU
Posted on January 25th, 2007 at 9:07 am

Variety reports that NBC and Dick Wolf have signed Law & Order SVU stars Mariska Hargitay and Christopher Meloni to rich two-year deals. The two stars are expected to pull in annual salaries of more than $6.5 million each. It’s believed that with the bump, Hargitay will become, at minimum, one of the highest-paid actresses in network TV. That would put her paycheck in the $300,000-$340,000 per episode range. Given their co-lead status, it seems likely Meloni’s paycheck is in the same range as Hargitay’s. Wolf said he’s happy “that Chris and Mariska have decided to stay with a show that they’ve made an indelible stamp upon as we move into our ninth season.” Anticipating a deal was close, NBC last week announced that “SVU” would be returning next fall.

Kelsey Grammer and Patricia Heaton are in talks with 20th Century Fox TV to topline a half-hour comedy from producers Christopher Lloyd and Steve Levitan, reports Variety. Levitan and Lloyd wrote the show, titled Action News, which revolves around the reteaming of two local news anchors, to be played by Heaton and Grammer. Grammer has been weighing the idea of a TV comeback for a few months, adds the trade. Heaton was attached to topline a pilot for ABC last development season, but the network ultimately passed.
