Robert Smigel Brings Animals To Fox
Posted on September 29th, 2006 at 10:56 am

Fox has teamed with Saturday Night Live’s Robert Smigel and the producing company of “SNL” alum Adam Sandler for an animated series project. The show, from Sandler’s Happy Madison and 20th Century Fox TV, has received a presentation order. Written by Smigel and Greg Cohen (King of the Hill), it is described as a parody of suburban life using the animal kingdom. The order for “Animals” is part of Fox’s aggressive effort to find a fifth animated comedy to complement existing series The Simpsons, Family Guy, King of the Hill and American Dad for an all-animated Sunday lineup. The project predates Happy Madison’s current overall deal with Sony Pictures TV.

What To Watch 09.29.06
Posted on September 29th, 2006 at 9:45 am

Welcome to the Friday edition of What To Watch. Tonight SCIFI premieres a new season of Doctor Who. ABC is rerunning last nights Grey’s Anatomy followed by a new Men In Trees and 20/20. CBS has new episodes of Ghost Whisperer, Close To Home and Numbers. Fox has a whole night of Celebrity Duets while NBC has new episodes of Deal Or No Deal, Dateline and Law & Order.

Doctor Who - 8 pm/ET SCI FI

The Doctor returns for a new season, but this time he has a different look. David Tennant becomes the 10th incarnation of the mysterious time traveler since the campy cult-classic series debuted in 1963. Tonight’s 90-minute special episode takes place on Christmas Eve, and the usual holiday stress is intensified when an earthbound spaceship full of uninvited holiday visitors appears — and they’re more hostile than even the most insane in-laws. A second new episode follows the premiere.

Crossing Jordan Premiere Pushed For Game Show
Posted on September 28th, 2006 at 10:19 am

TV Squad is reporting that NBC has pushed back the season premiere of Crossing Jordan, in favor of a new game show hosted by Bob Saget. The game show is called 1 vs 100 and it’s a game where one contestant battles 100 other people to win $1 million. It’s the American version of a game show that is already popular in Europe. The series premiere is at 8 pm on October 20th, as a lead-in to the season premiere of Las Vegas. NBC hasn’t announced a new premiere date for Crossing Jordan.

This is very disappointing news. While I didn’t get to watch much of Crossing Jordan last year (thanks to Grey’s Anatomy) I still really like the show. I hope they eventually bring Max Kavanaugh back because I miss his interactions and relationship with his daughter. His character is one of those minor characters that adds so much to the show.

What To Watch 09.28.06
Posted on September 28th, 2006 at 9:22 am

Welcome to the Thursday edition of What To Watch. Tonight ABC has the premiere of Ugly Betty followed by a new episode of Grey’s Anatomy. Tonight we find out who Meredith will choose . . . McDreamy or McVet. AMC has a night of Jaws showing Jaws and Jaws 2. CBS has a night of new shows with Survivor, CSI and Shark. NBC has new episodes of My Name Is Earl and The Office followed by a new Deal or No Deal and a brand new ER with the returning John Stamos. And finally the CW is all new with the premieres of Smallville and Supernatural.

Grey’s Anatomy - 9 pm/ET ABC

With all the hoo-ha over the Meredith-McDreamy-Finn triangle and Izzie’s meltdown, Burke’s problems (he was shot last season, remember?) have been kind of lost in the shuffle. But he’s not forgotten tonight, when he introduces Cristina to his parents (Diahann Carroll and Richard Roundtree). It’s too bad, though, that she’s in her underwear and on top of him at the time because you know what they say about first impressions. Speaking of underwear, Addison’s passive-aggressive number last week with Meredith’s panties certainly signals that she’s not happy, and she addresses that tonight as well.

Lost Producers Talk Season Three
Posted on September 27th, 2006 at 9:58 am

Adam Horowitz and Edward Kitsis, co-executive producers of ABC’s hit SF series Lost, told SCI FI Wire that they can’t reveal secrets about the upcoming third season, but allowed that things will head in a different direction. If last year was the Year of the Hatch, “you might think of season three as the mystery of who the Others are,” Horowitz said in an interview. Michael Emerson, who played the mysterious Henry Gale, returns this season, along with several other characters from previous seasons, including some of the deceased characters. “Just because you’re dead doesn’t mean your story is over,” Horowitz said with a laugh. Kitsis added: “We think we’re going to blow some minds this year.”

The first six episodes of Lost will air starting next month, after which the show will take a 13-week break. The first self-contained pod of episodes constitutes a mini-season, which Horowitz said he hopes will get people excited about Lost’s return in February. At that point the series will run straight through without reruns.

Crocodile Hunters Death Will Not Be Shown On Television
Posted on September 27th, 2006 at 9:01 am

Crocodile Hunter Steve Irwin’s widow says she has not seen the film of her husband’s deadly encounter with a stingray and that it will not ever be shown on television. “What purpose would that serve?” Terri Irwin said in an interview with ABC’s Barbara Walters scheduled to air on television Wednesday in the United States and Australia.

Irwin, 44, died on September 4 when a stringray’s barb pierced his chest while he filmed a TV show on the Great Barrier Reef. A memorial service held for him last week was broadcast on three television networks in Australia. Irwin’s friend and business partner, John Stainton, has seen the film. He told Walters he never wanted to see it again and did not want anyone else to see it, either. “It’s just a horrible piece of film tape,” he said.

Heroes Scores Big Ratings For NBC

According to Variety, Heroes performed even better than was expected:

NBC drama “Heroes” opened to strong numbers on Monday, dominating its broadcast rivals and looking like the first breakout performer of the fall season. The Peacock captured the night in 18-49, with CBS on top in 25-54 and total viewers.

According to preliminary nationals from Nielsen, “Heroes” (5.9 rating/11 share in adults 18-49, 14.3 million viewers overall) topped CBS’ second-place comedy block of “Two and a Half Men” (5/12 in 18-49, 15.7 million viewers overall) and “Old Christine” (4/10, 12.6 million viewers overall) by a hefty 31% in adults 18-49 and also led in total viewers.
